"He was disappointed because there was military stuff, but it was all fighting stuff, so I asked the clerk, and he was alarmed by us asking how to fly airplanes and said that was against the law," Olearcek said. "I said I couldn't imagine that, but, because (the clerk) was a little on edge ... I left."
What would have happened had they asked, what aisle the almanacs are located?

The really funny thing is that the sites they targeted, that lead to over a MILLION other, legit sites being blocked, were only SUSPECTED of having child porn. The judge didn't even know for sure yet he closed down hundreds of thousands of sites, and who knows how many of those were businesses.

COLRAIN - An innocent inquiry to a Staples store clerk about a computer software program that teaches how to fly an airplane by instrumentation brought a surprise visit this holiday season to a local family from the state police......

But Olearcek said she doesn't believe the trooper was intentionally trying to frighten her family. Nor does she blame the clerk for erring on the side of caution.

"Bottom line is we've all got to look out for each other, and I wasn't harmed," summed up Olearcek. "And what if it were the other way around? It's going to take everyone in each town to look after one another."
An unfortunate incident - but no harm done and as she stated it's best to err on the side of caution.

Yes, America has changed. And it will never go back to pre 9/11. Never.

I'm used to it now - I travel internationally a couple of times a year for my job - defense work. Security clearance, security interviews with FBI and Industrial Security (DISCO) for security clearance updates. They are a bit more thorough than they used to be.

I actually fell a bit more secure at work with two layers of guards to go through to get into my work area - they partrol our parking lots and have manned access gates to gain entry.

For several months following 9/11 we had to open vehicles to gain access to our plant, raise hood and trunk lids and armed guards would inspect vehicle interior and also inspect under vehicles with mirrors. Shotguns and assault rifles at the gates.

What pi$$es me off the most about the post 9/11 world is air travel. Boarding an aircraft I have been searched, shoes removed for x-rays, interviewed and crap - that just fry's my a$$.

It's not the guards or the safety or x-rays - but the FACT that some stupid SOB would attempt to take explosives onboard an airliner and kill innocent people. And for that reason, the rest of us must endure this bull$h!t to travel. Not only do we endure - we PAY the bill.

That's why I sleep just fine at night when they unleash our F-16's on the stupid MF's.

I completely understand the need for security, some of the places I work have very high security as well. Knowing these places are well protected lets me sleep at night.
But it seems like Staples might be a bit paranoid on this one and the trooper sneeking in the bushes, can I get a

This is true and yes, obviously Staples overreacted.

However, in the grande scheme of things for homeland security to be at the high levels it has been, there are bound to be a false alarm or two here and there.

    At least people are watching.

The trooper in the bushes? Well....
