This is pretty friggin funny.
Hey Mr. Steele, perhaps your party doesn't have any more than 36 "people of color" on your side in the state of Florida....jackass
Business Model Suggestion
Someday someone will do this.
In the right size city? This could work I believe.
I know alot of carpenters and cabinet makers etc
from my dealings with General Contractors.
What I propose is a place....fully equipped to make anything out of wood
that is accessible by all tradesmen or homeowners etc for either an hourly fee or by subscription arrangement.
Some central location in an empty warehouse sized building.
Perfect ventilation etc.
Every tool needed to go from simple to lets say cabinet making.
The attraction for a tradesman? No need to invest huge sums in every conceivable tool that is often used only once.
Everything is here. Including spray booths for finishing.
No need to invest large sums in equipment.
Climate controlled environment.
Loading docks and delivery available.
Market study required.
Also about 500,000 to 1,000,000 in equipment/building upgrades.
Based on the old concept used by "rent a bay" for car mechanics.
How many of us would love to build stuff but cant because of space and equipment costs?
Of course the Rolleyes Lumber yard would be next door.
And a showroom wouldnt be a bad idea either....where guys that simply love to make things can sell them
on the second level.
Now thats how I would stimulate the Economy.^^
Ill be looking in my mailbox for a billion.

^^^ it'd be great until some ACORN "community organizer" discovered you were making a profit. Then they'd "card check" you into the SEIU. Labor costs would force the gubberment to bail ya out. Then Obama would replace the the CEO (you).... Nice dream though.
"The most dangerous myth is the demagoguery that business can be made to pay a larger share, thus relieving the individual. Politicians preaching this are either deliberately dishonest, or economically illiterate, and either one should scare us...
Only people pay taxes, and people pay as consumers every tax that is assessed against a business."
^^further benefit: Preservation of skills that are vanishing.
Father to son: Lets go to the shop and build something.
Beats a video game.
Id set it up differently so the word "profit" is not in the vocab.
I just take a high salary and all expenses are paid current term.
Shit...if I wanted? I could turn the accounting into something that makes a triple helix look like a crayon drawing!

But seriously? I ran the concept by a friend of mine. To simply puzzle with.
When I see a check for 100,000? Ill think some more!
And of course it would be a "Green Factory" of sorts. No carbon footprint.
Hear that Obama?
Lemme check my mailbox again.

Who's gonna be your insurance company, Jim? Sure as heck I wouldn't write that policy... it's an amputation waiting to happen 'nStuff. Same reasons they killed the school 'shop' class up here.
Either a waiver or Id get AIG to write the inclusive physical injury policy.
But I take your point.
The legal workaround would be a joint "ownership" arrangement of sorts.
"By signing this waiver of physical injury not caused by the "company" you absolve the "company" of
any responsibility beyond "physical plant and equipment" and work and use the facilities at your own risk."

I'm getting sick of this $hit. Check your religion at the door and do your job.

Under the heading: "I feel dirty"
Truth to be learned from Alec Baldwin:
As much condemnation has been earned by Pinch and his leftovers at the New York Times... there is a real shortage of full scale print media work done by a balanced organization here in the US. I'd settle for a Right Winged news service, as long as it's focus was on the News, not on politics. In Manhattan, copies of the New York Times often pile up everywhere. But lately, the alternatives seem wanting.
Does anybody here have any suggestions? I don't want a dead tree edition plopped on my porch everyday... Our birds have been given to new homes after all. But if there is a good to great news organization out there that is:
1) Primarily a NEWS organization, not gossip or politics with a little headline now and again
2) Professional... amateurs are fine, as long as they do pro work.
3) National news as well as International news
4) Up to date... hourly posts or better
I've been thinking about WaPo or IBD or such... anybody got any reviews of their daily work?
...and yes, I feel dirty because I agree with Alec fricken' Baldwin. But truth is where you find it, not necessarily where you want it 'nStuff.
He's shown zero interest in teaching me anything. Maybe that's my fault, but I feel I've ran plenty of idea's of stuff I'd like to build by him..and he's never taken the bait. Arcade cabinets. Computer cases. Custom shelving to display action figures.
I would think that'd be a helluva lot more fun to build than a freaking kitchen cabinet.
I had a Grandfather like that myself. Great shop, great skills... no patience or desire to pass it down. It was HIS thing, and he got his enjoyment out of DOING it, not teaching it. Sort of like when folks say "I wish I'd listened to the Old Man when I had a chance"... for every one of those, there was a kid listening, and hearing "Go away kid, ya bother me." Not everybody is what we would have liked them to be.
The construction workers will than take the pieces and put the house up like a card castle.
But that's just the way of the future, could you imagine what a car would cost if you had to hire fabricators/welders, painters to build it?
