Jacqui Smith unveils secret weapon in war on burglary... 15% discount voucher for B&Q

By James Slack, Home Affairs Editor

The Home Secretary [In charge of the police and security services] hopes to limit the damage of a so-called recession crimewave

Jacqui Smith's secret weapon in the war on burglary was unveiled yesterday. It is a discount voucher for B&Q.

From today, householders are invited to call a government hotline offering a coupon giving up to 15 per cent off the DIY chain's security products.
They will also be sent a pack containing top tips on how to keep out burglars, such as remembering to close doors and windows and leave on a light if going out for the evening. The Home Secretary hopes that fitting cut-price window locks will also help to keep burglars at bay.
Here's an idea... keep the ones you do catch locked up and remove the revolving doors you fitted to the prisons.

Lets just see how the prosecutors involved enjoy things when the shoe is on the other foot

WASHINGTON -- A federal judge dismissed the corruption conviction of former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens on Tuesday and took the rare and serious step of opening a criminal investigation into prosecutors who mishandled the case.
"In nearly 25 years on the bench, I've never seen anything approaching the mishandling and misconduct that I've seen in this case," U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan said.

if we didn't put so many people in prison this wouldn't be an issue. the problem needs to be solved some other way. why the hell do they do imprisonable things anyway?

Because some people are just bad. See the woodchipper thread. IMHO.. lockem all up.. repeat offenders.. throw away the key.

yeah. that's nice and all. but we need to do something to stop it. i think a lot of it has to do with diet. economic factors are another part of it... at least now anyway....

but anyway, something needs to be fixed. that something needs to be found.
