The whole concept gets turned around however with specialties like law and medicine....and certainly some sciences.

I dont know. Its a hard one.

Was a time...at least where I was raised in CT...that any teacher was paid
as the typically skilled counterpart....in private sector.
Not a get rich scheme but certaunly teachers didnt feel like they got the shaft. The wage base was based on what a similar educated guy/gal would be paid in the corporate enviroment. That make sense standard has gone away in some areas.

Back when I was teaching? At a private College?
    Something like $13.50 an hour. I taught 15 - 18 hours a week....and that was the max.

Then I decided it was a losing deal.

It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy....of sorts. That teachers must come from the private sector or else they must be ill equipped to deal with the "outside enviroment"

I get stuck when I apply the same thinking to "sports"
Ya.. it is a tough call. I just remember as I was growing up here in the SF Bay Area.. most teachers I had took every opportunity to make their case about how bad they had it. It just wore thin as hell on me by the time I hit the JC level. The only upside was the free time afforded every time the union got them stirred up and they picketed the schools.

In some fields I do not mind instructors with no "real world" experience.. but in the vast majority I think it is critical. As an aircraft maintainer in the USAF we had plenty of people with the "book smarts" to do the job that you would not let under the cowl of a jet aircraft for any amount of beer. They usually ended up in the tool shed or behind a desk somewhere. These same people had no issue picking up their FAA A&P licenses. I knew a lot of the folks testing when I got mine back in 92 were in the "book smart" category...

While it is not necessary... I sure have seen, and had the direct benefit from the experience of those whom actually did what they taught on a professional level. So yes.. it is a tough call.

It's okay, Jim... those tractor/trailer rigs all run on bio-diesel 'nStuff. Besides, it's not like Ms Crow is the only one benefiting from all of those polluting vehicles... look how many of the little people get to hear her sing? Isn't that an offset?!? You should learn to be more tolerant 'nStuff.

They didn't even kill it for a trophy, just to kill it. Smashing its head with a blunt object? Jesus.

From Reynolds at his joint. I cant say it better so read his take

SHERYL CROW AND HER TOILET PAPER: I think this is an example of "negative branding." As I drove home, I heard a local DJ saying that no one will ever be able to listen to her music without thinking of butt-wiping, and then speculating that maybe Lance Armstrong had left her because "she wasn't diligent enough with the paperwork." That was the first of many similar jokes.
    I don't think it was part of a well-thought-out PR strategy. . . .

Meh... he was guessing... talking out of his, er, hat. He said he had no idea, he wasn't familiar with the info, and that this was the first he'd heard about it. I can fault him for all KINDS of positions and mistakes. This ain't that bad. I mean, HOW many times has he done question and answer? Give him props for that, right?

And this from a big Conservative, who knows what the Swiftboaters actually said about the guy... and agrees with 'em. Sorry Jim... NEXT!

It has to be something done by pure choice of the kids. I just cant imagine any school system/school getting away with all that.
