Bad BH-5? and recs for new DDR

512MB stick ofWinbond BH-5 DDR 3200. Here is my issue. When I run @200Mhz FSB I get random reboots. If I lower my DDR speed to 83% (=166mhz) things are fine. Ran MEMTEST86 and consistently get errors @ 65% completion, to many to write down because it scrolls to fast.

Assume this is a legit DDR issue as it shows up consistently.

Am considering these 3 sticks as a replacement, any suggestions appreciated.

1.)Geil Golden Dragon (3200 or higher)

2.)Corsair XMS Series (c2 or LL?)

    3.)Kingston HyperX

seems like a power issue try turning up the voltage to 2.9 and changing your timings to 11-3-3-2

Is it one 512mb or 2x256? Did you try using different slots?

I wouldn't write off your BH-5 untill you try other memory in your rig or try what you have in a different system.

Do you have access to some other memory or have you used other sticks in your rig?

Please do not discount your ram untill you rule out some possible other problems.

It's the only DDR stick I've got. Do have some old 133 SD, but that's about useless

am running a copper heat spreader on it. Is it possible that it is not making good contact and therefore overheating the chips? Have very good airflow in case. Also, ran voltage up to 1.95 and errors were reduced to 2 or 3 at 200Mhz for 2 passes of test 5 on memtest.

Exactly what kind of ram is it?

How can you be certain it's BH-5 if it has a heatspreader covering the chips?

try w/o the heatspreader. Mine stay cooler w/o. Sometimes the heatspreader acts as an insulator keep the Vdimm at 2.9 also

    Raybo,

I know it's BH-5 because that's what the chips said on them. I added the heat spreder my self, used AS3 on the RAM chips rather than the thermal tape that came with it.

As far as the spreader acting as an insulator, that's what I wondered about.

    Possibly your motherboard?

Other than that, (and I hate to be redundant) get a hold of an other stick.

AND!..................AS3 was probably the wrong thing to use, it can be conductive.
