online gaming problem!! lost internet connection!! wtf?

ok i was playing my first game online and was just about to attack/harass the other guy when apparently he quit.

there was a quick message saying updating settings then i was told i won without firing a shot.

big deal i thot, the guy was probly a bigger noob than me and was trying not to get a crappier rating by actually fighting and losing. can you get around getting a crappier rating by quitting insteading of fighting and losing?

THE BIG PROBLEM WAS AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE GAME I HAD NO INTERNET CONNECTION LEFT.

I REBOOTED AND STILL NOTHING.
I CHECKED NETWORK CONNECTIONS
and found this extra
internet gateway thing in there.

i tried clicking on it to get /or adjust it properties but it would disaapear after a second or two of that.
then it dissapeared altogether but still no internet no wireless, nothing.

so this time i shutdown and unplugged everything! my tower, dsl tv router, wireless router, modem , everything.

then voila i had internet connection again!

SO HOW DO I AVOID THIS EVERYTIME I PLAY ONLINE?
is there an alternat way to play online other than clicking on multiplayer and letting the game set things up?

Which Game ?
Have you had this problem with all servers you connect to , or was it just the one incident ?
Do you you think this other player planted/passed on some bug onto your rig . ?

Games will do some stupid stuff if the connection is too laggy and they lose connection , some do it gracefully , others do not .
I have had a trojan infection from UT , but wouldnt assume that right off . A full AV and trojan scan is a good idea either way .

age of mythology was the game
one guy did acuse me of using cheats even tho it wasnt enabled and i wouldnt cheat anyway but i dont think he did it. i think it happened b4 i played him.
its a very sore/lame loser who would intentionally send a bug to someone who defeated him.
i am scanning now for bugs.
also the internet didnt disappear after this second set of games.

You using a router? If UPnP is enabled in the router, then a gateway will appear in Network Connections.

i have a router or switch cuz i have 2 tv and one internet dsl connection all hooked to the same line.
then from there i have a wireless router with two desktops hooked up most of the time plus a wireless laptop whenvever i use it.
not sure about the upnp cuz this was my first sucessful network and it required very littel input from me to get working.

i did a scan and got no bugs so it must have just been an isolated incident with the game and my routers, hopefully it doesnt happen again.
