"Disconnect from Server" on BF 1942

I have been having trouble with BF1942 not connecting to server. It appears to be loading fine and just before it should connect, it flashes back to the refresh list and comes up with "Disconnect from Server". It does this across the board with each server, with the exception of once or twice connecting out of 30 tries. Those few times that it connected, the servers were either empty, or only had 3 or 4 people in them.

I performed a fresh install with Windows XP. I also had similar trouble with MOHAA not connecting at all with the message "Server timed out".

I can get on the internet with no trouble with IE explorer through my cable service...........

    Any ideas????

Not implying anything here but I have heard of that before. It is usually due to someone who has used a keygen to install a DL copy. If you have a legit retail copy I have no other ideas.

You can also get this with a version mismatch, if you and the server are running different versions of BF1942 or a mod. This can also be caused by some pure servers rejecting you.

What sechs said... Do you have your BF patched (and possibly running the correct, patched mod)?

Ok, I have loaded the game on several of my children's computers, and I have it loaded on my other computer downstairs.

I do not get a "CD license in use" message. Of all the servers out there, will it check my cd license against every single server? I figured that unless I was on the same server, that they were on, that it would not matter. I only have it on maybe four computers.

Theoretically, your key is checked against the database kept by Gamespy. Once a key is in use by one IP address, it will block all others.

    Sechs,

I don't use the gamespy. Would it in some way still check with the other servers. I don't know which collection of servers that it uses or who would monitor all of those servers, but I use the servers that are assigned when I sign on simply using what is available through BF1942.

Well a buddy and I tried using the same BF1942 install, but with seperate expansion packs(RTR). No gamespy installed, and anytime one of us was on, the other would get a "CD key in use" or " Disconect from server" error....no matter what. Same servers or different servers, all the same.

well surely its irrelevant anyways since presumably all ur family will be on the same ip adress with a router??

and ive had this a few times, but always due to trying to connect to a server with the wrong versions of BF or DC

Just because you don't have the separate Gamespy client installed, doesn't mean that you don't have any Gamespy software. The in-game browser is powered by Gamspy.

Anyway, the key check is done when you try to connect to a server. I can't tell you what exactly happens there.
