    CH5 vs. BH5

    Hi

I have two sticks of Buffalo PC3700 BH5. It seems that my next ram purchase will likely have to be CH5.

    What are these modules characteristics?
max voltages, timings, possible fsb speeds..etc.

    The basic ones are:

    * bh-5 can run 2-2-2 more easily than ch-5, in fact, most of pc3200 and pc3500 memory with ch-5 chips is rated 2-3-2 and most likely will not run lower ras-to-cas delay than 3 at pc3200 speeds and higher.

    * bh-5 in general overclock far better than ch-5 as long as you give them enough volts. With bh-5 is it, the more volts you give it, the higher it will run (yes, some people run bh-5 with 2-2-2 timings at 260 fsb... and 3.2 volts through it at least), whereas with ch-5, voltage increase above 2.7-2.8 volts will give you no additional fsb.

    * and bh-5 chips are discontinued, that's why memory with them that's guaranteed to run 2-2-2 (mushkin levelII, ocz platinum limited edition), is the most expensive.

Give your BT BH-5 more voltage..and it will perform.

    Hi

Is there a suitable replacement module for those of us wanting high fsb now that BH5 modules are gone ?

I may head over to a cantorwood after the holidays. What module is suitable ?

The good thing about BH-5..is that it's the best for both AMD & Intel systems. There isn't really any good replacement yet.

Switching from BH-5 to another BH-5 might not make a difference with your current system...but a few still offer BH-5

A related question: On my A7N8X Dlx board, how do you increase Vmem beyond 2.8V - is it limited?

    Hi

Is there anything on the horizon for next year that can give us back the performance we've lost without bh5?

    That's a good question.

Winbond is making BH-5s again. They were used in OCZ's Special Edition PC3500 Platinum memory, but from what I've read they sucked. At least they couldn't live up to the BH-5 ICs manufactured from the 2002 wafers.

I've heard 4ns chips are on the horizon.

They're gonna make bh-4 also like afrakes . I've seen engineering samples that did 270 mhz 7-2-2-2 at 2.8v with the bh-4's .. They were a-data with bh-4

Any info when any memory based on bh-4 would come out?

My guess is CH-5 is both cheaper and easier to make..
