    Problem DVDRW Questions

    Can someone please explain to me all the different DVD writing formats?

    What is

    Dual Layer
    Double Layer
    DVD+R
    DVD+RW

    What is meant by
    for example...
    PLEXTOR DUAL 12x8x4x/DVD+-RW 48x24x48x/CD-RW SATA INTERNAL
    vs.
    PLEXTOR DUAL 4x/DVD+R DOUBLE LAYER 8x4x16x/DVD+-RW

    Dual layer is a pre recorded dvd
    Double layer is a recordable disc with a capacity around 8.5 gb
    DVD +R is a write once disc capicity of 4.7 gb
    DVD +R RW is a rewritable disc (format & use more than once )

    PLEXTOR DUAL 12x8x4x/DVD+-RW 48x24x48x/CD-RW SATA INTERNAL
    Top speed of 12x dvd no mention of dual layer (CD writer also )
    PLEXTOR DUAL 4x/DVD+R DOUBLE LAYER 8x4x16x/DVD+-RW
    Burns dual layer @ 4x Single @16x ( no mention for CD )

    Thanks Mike. That clears it up. I went with the NEC ND-3520A-KIT-BL. Here are the specifications for it.

    Have had good luck with nec drives very good with taiyo yuden -R discs,happy burning.
