i tried the farcry demo and it loads almost all the way then my comp shuts down completly. i have an ati 7200 with the latest drivers. does anyone know if there is a problem with ati cards and the demo?
Ditto but with a 9800np and 3.10's. So it's obviously not because of the video card. Iy loads up about 95.4324% of the way, then my computer freezes.

did you turn off anti aliasing? That is what fixed it for me. Try the Cat 3.9's too, they are specifically suggested for running this demo.

this is running on 3 rigs now, my rig with Audigy the sounds are perfect. LanPartyA w/SS the gunfire just got lost as I asked my buddy who is playing it lol. Disabling EAX for SoundStorm fixes this problem.

All machines running ATI 9700P or better, all with Cat3.9's.

    my thoughts on the game:

i was not really impressed all that much with it. It looks great, but with the newest games coming out like Doom and HL2 etc, it doesn't really look that great. Sure it has nice things like far distance, but if you stand inland and look out, you can see little islands and rocks pop in and out of view (draw-in). Crytek engine was supposed to not let this happen.

Physics are cool, but UT engine did it first and still does it best. All games are using ragdoll physics now, its not a huge thing anymore.

i'm in agreement with one of the first posters, this is a cool game, but same old junk we have been playing for years. nothing new and exciting here. Halo2 (xbox) and HL2 and Doom are the ones I am excited to see. This game will be ok if they put a $20 Serious Sam price point on it, but otherwise, not really worth the money.

as for bugs...I didn't experience a single bug other than a helo stuck way up in the sky.

remember these are just my opinions =)

Games that use ragdoll atm don't have shit for body detection... Bodies stacking up on other bodies and such... Cry Engine does this very well.

Also, the draw in thing, if it's really not supposed to be there, just might be polished out in the finall.. Considering this is a DEMO.

I am sure it will be a lot nicer when the final product is released.

The physics in this game really top UT's considerabley.

UT physics really are marginal at best. I personally think it's a VERY well polished game.

Ok I downloaded the newest drivers and am good. But, i'll get choppyness at times, or if i do a 90 degree turn it will freeze for a split second and then load up the 90 degree turnaround. I'm getting 65FPS or so, so this shouldn't be happening.

That split second freeze happens to me in CoD...
    No idea why.

Framerates are nice... but it does this quick little lag.

    Lame..

Just finished the demo, not bad, not great. Overall should be a fun game to play. If there is to be a MP component snipers will love all the cover. The game dragged like h3ll on my pc at settings over 1024x768. I play most of my current games at a min. setting of 1280x1024 (4xAA-8xAF) without issue and BF1942 at 1200x1600 with the same settings. They definately need to clean up the performance issues but this is BETA so I'll givt the title the benifit of doubt that most issues will be fixed..

I played it at my freinds house a little while ago...and it ran like ****. Here is his system...

    *Intel p4 2.8Cghz@3.4ghz(950fsb)
    *Abit IC7MAX3 motherboard
    *1GB Mushkin Level II DDR450
    *ATi Radeon 9800 Pro@420/378

Now, I know for a FACT that his system should run this game. He gets around 20,000 in 3dmark01, and 6,900 in 03. His system is freakin crazy, and yet this game still runs like poop. We had to disable AA to actually get this demo to work! WTF?! This game is garbage. Sure it has good graphics, but whats the point if it doesnt run good?! His system is a lot better than A LOT of peoples rigs here, including mine, so it should run this game a lot better than it did. The physics are cool, i gotta admit, but they are teh same as MP2, UT2k3, etc. The reflections in the water were really good, but REAL water doesnt reflect that much. Overall, its just like any other FPS with better graphics. I remember when everybody was like "When the final version of Dues Ex 2, it will run A LOT better than the demo" LOL! Look how that game turned out....
