    Re: Virus Alerts/Security Warnings/Solutions

I mentioned this at another thread but I may as well warn people here as well.
Dont trust any numbers you see here until the issue is resolved.
I reported the issue to SANS and also CNN

    http://money.cnn.com/data/dow30/

This illustrates my point. Select Walmart.
Youll go to this page. Look at the chart.
Look at the header info above the chart

If it were anything but money?
Id let it go. Id hate to read about some fool
making a bad choice based on bad/corrupt info.

    Man. What a mess

I guess they read my email

Price information for some stocks may be incorrect. CNNMoney.com is working with our data provider to fix the problem. We apologize for the inconvenience.

They fell for their own bad info and made a hot stocks list?

Idiots. Id fire all of them.

    Re: Virus Alerts/Security Warnings/Solutions

I hope CNN is able to correct the problem. Here is how a corrupt database can affect things.....beyond simply the value of a stock.

If we look at General Motors for example we see a chart and data.
    Ive copied that here

    http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.htm...ory_quote_link

    Prev. Close:
    4.03

    Open:
    4.05

    High:
    4.11

    Low:
    3.91

    Volume:
    11,191,548

    Volume Avg.:
    41,099,300

    52wk Range:
    1.70 - 29.28

    Market Cap (mil):
    18,295.58

    P/E Ratio:
    0.00

Thats strait from CNN. We can reason the incorrect share value has also changed the Market Cap.
18B is absurd for General Motors.
The actual is closer to 2.8B

    They do this automated stuff?
    How about some safeguards?
If I can spot the obvious crap data?
So should someone at CNN Money.

    The reality from Yahoo Finance

    GEN MOTORS

    Last Trade:4.03Trade Time:Jan 9Change: 0.01 (0.25%)Prev Close:4.04Open:4.05Bid:N/AAsk:N/A1y Target Est:1.39Day's Range:3.91 - 4.1152wk Range:1.70 - 29.28Volume:11,191,548Avg Vol (3m):39,246,500Market Cap:2.46BP/E (ttm):N/A

    See that?

    Market Cap:2.46

My initial conclusion is CNN gets data from somewhere.
That "data" also influences the company "data" as I illustrated.
It also seems to have triggered an automated "Hot Stocks"
entry based on pure bull shit/corrupt data.

Collectively the top botnets are capable of sending over 100 billion spams per day
    That's a LOT of spam!
