I was bummed out to see those too. I would guess that since so much of gaming is dependant on video drivers (and hardware) that those results sucked out loud. I hope that when ATI helps out that the 64OS will absolutely kick butt.

There was mention in the Anand article of the following - "64-bit drivers for our 3Com on-board LAN and SK8V sound" obtained from http://www.planetamd64.com/

I took a look at the forum there, and sure enough found somebody who got sound working on an ASUS K8V by using the 64 bit Realtec AC-97 driver found there. I tried it and it works fine. You have to plug your speaker into the MIC port though. For anyone whose base driver is AC-97...worth a shot.

    OMG

    1) The NVIDIA drivers were beta. On a beta OS. Be thankful they work! Performance is an optional extra at this stage.

    2) ATI are sitting around on their arse's watching the 64bit world go by at the moment. At least NVIDIA are activly testing their drivers. So i dont expect ATI to arrive with magic untested drivers that work and perform amazingly well. Infact i expect to opposite - i expect them to be so-so and take a while to fix... if we get them at all... as XP64 might be seen as a 'workstation' product they may only decide that Fire GL support is important, not their line of gaming cards.

I'll bet that a lot of driver development monkey's are working overtime to get on this bus.

Doesn't the race to 64bit seem like kind of a holy quest at this point? Would you like to be one of the companies that didn't get theiri tail in gear?

That seems logical dont it. But ask ATI. Dispite NVIDIA releasing drivers and a public preview of XP64 being out they are not particulary interested in getting out any 64bit drivers until the OS hits RTM.... and i have not seen the Radeon range mentioned there strictly....

It is quite possible that they mean Fire GL support.... their workstation card. After all who would buy a high-end 64bit system, a 'workstation/development' 64bit OS - and play games on it? Some people... enough for ATI to think its worthwhile?

Yea, they are a bummer ......

but I bet the test was bad -- the card/drivers - I dunno.

my 9700pro gives the same 3dmark03 score, 64 bit vs regular, and it's just using whatever drivers come with the OS. I know it's just a synthetic, but still .... it seems somethings gotta be wrong with anandtech's setup.

All of US would! The gaming community hasn't had this much to look forward to for a while.

But OK, we are just a sliver of the entire market. But one can hope...

As others have said, I think the focus is on the business/corporate sector at this point. Eventually it will happen. It would help if MS would give us more of an idea of when 64-bit WindowsXP is going to be released in it's final form.

maybe i'm misunderstanding things, but it seems to me ATI HAS released 64 bit drivers for their products -- they just chose to do it imbedded in the OS -- as opposed to through on site download.

From one of Killeroy's posts: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._10454,00.html
Aren't the "in box" drivers exactly what we're looking for, at least for right now?

Sure I wanna see ATI updates as they come out, but for now is there any real difference between what either ATI or NVIDIA have released? A first round of drivers?

I was very pleased to find my 9700pro runs as well under 64 bit as 32, given the newness of 64. I still think anandtech's comparision using a nvidia card is somehow flawed -- maybe ati's 64 drivers are actually ahead of nvidias? mark
