Do you feel that you need 60-80GB for the OS drive....and some app?
Yea exactely. 60-80gb for OS and drivers, antivirus, some small things. And the secondary storage drive around 160-200gb, possibly 250g but that may be a bit too much.

Ill just say that i have no problems with losing my data on this drive, only for the reason that basically my OS and drivers are located here. Reinstalling the OS and a few drivers, plus McAfee and Zonealarm, is a non issue. I store all my other program stuff on my second (reliable for now) drive.
Actually, I haven't lost anything since I've started keeping my "important" stuff on another partition. Windows goes bad, bam... I still have My Documents, saved games, etc. etc. so it works out nice. but, I've lost so much (before I knew) so, just thought I'd throw that in lol

That is alot of space for the OS and some apps though...Hmmm...a Raptor might fit the bill there...lol.

This is true. Hey, you think the hitachi is better then the seagate? I need to start looking at some reviews of hard drives, but am having trouble finding newer "hard drive roundups"

Oh i almost forgot. Do you think OEM is better then Boxed? Or does it really not make that much difference. I know that OEM is cheaper and dosent have any install software etc etc, i was under the impression that OEM drives might be inferior quality to Boxed yes?

Very nice drive too. Feels quick and responsive but its no match for the raptor. You have to have both on hand to realize the difference sitting at the keyboard, and its a substantial one.

What about say a raptor for my OS and the deskstar 160 or 200gb for my storage, would that combination work? And what about OEM vs. Boxed. Like i said i know that OEM is just a bare drive and boxed has software etc etc. But i had heard that OEM drives were inferior to boxed, or is that a myth?

    OEM drives are fine.

If you need the software just download it.

I like the combination. I started with one.....you may end up getting two like I did though.....you've been warned...lol.

    Sorry Prime.

Ya...I haven't bought a retail drive in years.

In fact OEM inventory usually moves a bit quicker.....so your likely to maybe get newer firmware too.

Ok well..... now i really have a headache lol I have to take off for work now but im going to give this more thought... correct me if im wrong but havent a lot of peeps been having problems with there 36g raptors? Or is that just because of raiding them? Maybe i should go with 74G raptor? Has that one had alot of problems? Like i said my faith in WD isint at an all time high right now.

If I were to buy today, I would go with the 74GB...but it does cost a bit more and the 36GB have improved.

I think the problems really vary....SATA is really new to alot of people. You have a popular MB though so if you do have issues, you can get plenty of advice.

I bought my Raptors when they first came out and haven't had any issues.

I've had pretty good luck hard drive wise. I've only had to send 2 back in over 10 years. 1 Seagate, and 1 WD.

Two brands that I have owned and never had a problem with is Maxtor and IBM. Hell, the IBM 2g is still going stong in one of my back up machines, it's been almost 5 years I think.

5 years is good...the last hard drive I replaced was a WD that was about 4.5 years old.
