    experienced networker's plz help!

Ok, Is it possible to see an ftp server on a computer behind a router hooked to a cable modem? Like the cable modem's ip is say 12.12.12.12 , but since I'm behind the router, my internal address is some 192.168.0.101. I've done ftp serving before but it was when I was hooked directly to the cable modem. ie. ftp://12.12.12.12/[fileshare] .... of that nature. How/Can I access the ftp from this new setup? Thanks for any help.

    ftp://user:pass@ipnumber:port

Should work, make sure you forward your FTP to the correct internal machine. Works for me =)

I used Bullitproof FTP, works fine. I didn't have to do anything to the router.

If I read your initial post correctly, you have an FTP server running and you want people outside your router to access the FTP server. If that is the case, then you need to enable port forwarding on your router and forward port 20 and 21 to 192.168.0.101 (or whatever the IP of the computer running the server is).

Then you give out your PUBLIC IP (like 12.12.12.12 you used above) and when someone tries to FTP to 12.12.12.12, the router will pass the info to your computer behind it (i.e. "forward" the data)
