    AN35N Ultra Weird Boot Problem

I just put together a system that consists of the following:

    1. Shuttle AN35N Ultra Mb
    2. AMD XP 2500+
    3. Hitachi 7200rpm IDE HD
    4. Spec Tek PC2700 256MB DDR
    5. Allied 400W PSU
    6. CDRW
    7 DVD Drive
    Running Windows XP Pro

Anyway, the system runs ok, but when i turn it off, it does not want to turn on again for a while. It seems i have to hit the PSU switch to off for a minute, then flip the switch, then push the power button on the case and it comes on.

I tried 2 different power supplies, and unhooked power from all devices and I'm not running any PCI Cards and the Problem is still ongoing. Anyone have any suggestions on this? I'm starting to think that the Board needs RMA'd.

Funny, I had a similar problem with my an35n.

Does your pc turn on at all when you hit the switch (i.e. the cpu fans and stuff start moving around inside), but doesn't actually boot? If this is the case, try clearing the CMOS via the jumpers, it should at least get your pc booted up again.

Also, would your pc turn on only if you resetted the switch on the back, and then tried it? If this is the case, then could your case possibly be old? The power switch cable connected to the mobo could be faulty (the wires could be loose or just plain bad). This sounds likely as you have tried two seperate power supply's, negating them as an outright possiblity...

Fans wont even turn on. The only way to get it powered up again is to flip the switch off that is on the power supply itself, then wait a couple of minutes, then flip it back to the on position. Once i do this, the system will boot up.
I'm trying to think if it could be the case power switch as that's the only thing i haven't tried.

First thing to try is disconnect the Power and Reset switches. Use a screwdriver to short out the pins to start the system. If this works okay, plug in the Power switch and try it (but leave the reset switch disconnected). If it does, connect the reset switch and try it. If it works with the Power but not both, you probably have a defective Reset switch. If it doesn't work with the power switch, try plugging in the reset switch to the power leads and powering it up that way. It's possible that one or the other (or even both) are sticking.

    Thanks guys,
It's working now. To be honest, the only thing i did was unhook all of the Front Panel Connectors ( PWR SW, HDD Led, RST SW, Spkr, PLED ) and hooked everything back up and it's working just fine now. Hmmmm.. This is strange, but i know it was all hooked up correctly before. Oh well, I guess i will just run this for a few days before i give it to the owner.

    Thanks Again,

for some reason, and i've noticed this, that every time i boot the system up, when entering the windows desktop, it makes that sound as if it "detected new hardware". Anybody know what this could be ?

I hurried and tried getting into the device manager before it beeped, and everything seems to be installed as i didn't see any yellow ? or ! marks.
