3/23/04 - I want to know what you want to see

As the man behind Amdmb.com, I knew what I was going to review, write about and publish on the website. It was pretty cut and dry -- AMD processors and motherboards. But with PC Perspective now the driving force in my editorial life, I am interested in knowing what YOU want to read about.

Obivously, the basics like processors and motherboards will still be covered as you have seen in our opening weeks. But, what kind of coverage would make PCP unique and stand out from the crowd of other websites. We have in-depth graphics card coverage coming up with new ideas from Sean, including a 20+ game "compatibility test" that should offer a unique perspective. I am already getting the mobile reviews rolling with the eMachines review I posted a few days ago and I have a couple more on the way already.

With that in mind, what else do you want to see? A lot more cooling? Peripherals? Memory testing? Storage? How would you like to see the news covered? Are press releases interesting to you? I would like to get some specifics from you all so that myself and the rest of the staff of PC Perspective can make it the best hardware site on the Internet and your number one stop for reviews and information.

Well, you are doing a pretty good job to start with.
I would like to see more “in-house” editorials as well as maybe even video reviews like on 3dgameman. You know the kind, say a 3-5min (some times longer depending on product) summery of your main findings and conclusions as well as kind of a step by step at the beginning of it. If you are having a hard time getting what I am saying then check out 3dgameman.com and look at some of the video reviews. It would also be cool if we could get some day by day coverage from some of the tech show like CeBit, Computex, etc. every thing else seems to be coming along nicely and I am sure you will have many reviews in all your new categories. Also maybe a how-to section on how to set up say a raid array or how to install Windows XP or 2k when using SATA hard drives (have seen this question many times); That kind of stuff. So basically take the best elements from all the best review sites and combine it into one ultimate force known as PC Perspective.

P.S. it would be dope if you reviewed more SolTek stuff too. That could be because I am a major SolTek fan but hay, you’re the one who asked what I wanted.

i would like to see the pc perspective logo in the upper left corner be clickalbe so it owuld take me to the homepage.

ohyeh, u should just make amdmb go to your pc per homepage. And if u do that, then u should archive all of amdmb so we can go back to the glory days

personally, I would like to see reviews of Mouses, keyboards, etc.

Before I want to buy something like that, i like to read up on it, and I think it would be neat for a Before you buy type of thing.

Well, myself being into small computers, I think you should maybe review some of the Micro ATX Athlon 64 boards, and maybe some Via EPIA boards. Also maybe some Shuttle XPC's and Biostar IDEQs. I think many members would like the Shuttles and stuff if they saw more about them.

Video Game inputs and tests would bring in some new eyes even if it is just a monthly updated section.

But my addition would be, to generate some Buzz in the tech world, some promotional give aways.

I feel member participation and building close relationships with the readers are a solid foundation for long term growth.
The goal is to be around along time and not be the next flavor of the month, just to be forgotten the next.

T-shirt give away contests, maybe reviewed hardware give aways. And eventually a PC raffle to get the word passed around quickly.

I would like to see some testing on the onboard Giga-bit nics on some of the K7 and K8 boards. Next time I go to a lan party, I would like to know what I should expect when leeching...

Well..they DID do the Corsair giveaway...and money doesn't grow on trees...

Definitely cooling. Seems overwhelming to me, and *I hope* others. Dunno what the heck copper does on the cpu, different materials, etc.

You could do a little Ask-Ryan column...I still wanna know a lot more about how the site started, etc....that'd be cool

Well first off your doing a great job IMHO as is, and doing this will be just awesome to the site.

I myself, not sure of others would like to see more on video cards, and motherboards. Also maybe some how to's on setting up a good gameing machine i.e like setting up bios, clocking a vid card some basics. And was awesome when your site was doing some reviews and tests on cooling with the new cpu coolers.

All in all I am very happy with what you have grown this site into and to all that have been helping it's just GREAT, and anything you add will just be awesome toppings on this GREAT SITE!!!

I agree with one point in this post "more 'in-house' editorials" but making them videos just leaves out way too much. The "in-house" reviews have been the best of the best that i have seen. I esp. found the Power Supply review the most indepth review of power supplies that i have seen.

The separation of the Bits & Pieces stuff is very organized with the different "pieces" grouped together well.

I think you are on the head of the game when it comes to new tech and ideas being released to the community. Keep up the News

It would be nice to have a clickable to either site... this time I got here from PCP, but if I click on "Home" it sends me to Amdmb.com! I've got to go through TWO EXTRA STEPS to pull down a favorite, LOL... Seriously, maybe you could make the logo a double clickable... one side to Amdmb and one to PCP 'nStuff?

The review of the eMachine notebook was the first one online... well done! My other big request (as you know, Ryan) is to make a video card database along the lines of your Motherboard database... that click and compare feature just works for me, ya know?

I don’t expect the video reviews to replace the written editorials. I think they should be available as a supplement to the "short versions" of the reviews that are available and offer a look at the product, a brief showing of key findings, and the conclusion. I agree, if you went completely to video reviews to much information would be lost or they would be way to long. I think that a video review should be implemented like at 3dgameman in addition to the written material.

Id like to see more security. Instead of having security covered in networking and in random forums. Id like to see a centralised security forum/updated register of threats.
Throw in a few reviews of firewallz/av/spam killerz/etc and youve got the makings of a regularly visited phorum for information regarding the latest threat.

I want to see more 64bit processing stuff! Perhaps some articles on the xp64 beta versus 64 bit linux? More linux related material would be nice as well... I'm not talking slashdot but I think its important that more and more people become exposed to OSS.

I was going to request a gargantuan vid card round up but you've already beat me to it Ryan!

If you're so inclined I think an updated win XP tweak guide that goes into registry ediiting written in technical but not uber geek english would be EXCELLENT.

I know this goes against the grain but how bout some more intel information? like the EE or the P4E and upcoming chipsets and the like?


I at first thought PCper was a sellout but now i'm looking forward to AMDMB evolve into something much more. Keep it unbiased and keep ALL the remnants of the scientific method you've used in the past Ryan and I think you'll have an even greater success...
