PLEASE HELP!! Puter won't start.

Puter down!! Can't figure what is wrong. Push pwr button and fans, etc start turning then all shuts sown. Only lasts 5 seconds. CPU fan is turning and even plugged different fan into mobo incase sensing not workin. I just changed A7N8X-E mobo last month along with new Antec 480 PSU. All was running great yesterday after finishing reformat and reinstall. i took out all pci/AGP cards one at a time and all at once, dicoed ROM drives and HDD's, unplugged all fans etc and still same. I tried new power cord and plugged directly into the wall bypassing UPS. Any bright ideas??

That almost sound like C.O.P.( Cpu overheat Protection). Double check your Heatsink installation.

C.O.P. is when the processor gets really hot and turns itself off to stop itself from bursting into flames.

if your heatsink is on crooked or hanging off this would happen.

if your heatsink is on solidly then the problem could also be the powersupply. something's gone boom in there and it cant supply enough juice anymore. if you have a spare PSU it is fairly easy to swap them and test.

Thanks for the replies. I am prety sure it isn't COP as it isn't on long enough. The waterblock is on very solid with fresh Artic Silver 3. Besides the water pump and radiator fans do come on. I was going to try my Antec trupower 430 PSU in the AM. i think it is still good. I replaced it with an Antec 480 and didn't fix an earlier problem so I replaced the mobo and all was well. Of course teh PSU could have killed the mobo. I will try it anyway.

I reinstalled original Antec Trupower PSU and have exactly same result.

I'm with the others. It is the C.O.P. It can shut you down in less time than that, and it is about the only thing that will. Keep looking at that block, your problem is there.

You guys were right. THIS FORUM ROCKS and you guys are the best! A big THANK YOU to all whom replied. Now I feel like a dummy. The waterblock wasn't making good contact and the COP shut it down so I can't say it hasn't been over 45 deg anymore. I don't know how it could have been cocked cause the holdowns were engaged on all 6 tabs and they are spring loaded. I reseated the waterblock with new Artic Silver and all is well again. I put the 480 PSU back in but at least now I know the 430 is still good. Thanks again to all who replied.
