you ATI guys should also know your beloved X800pro/XT is the final hair in the ancient R300 core architecture. the NV40 is all new stuff, brand new core. you must realize that through all of these benchies youre shown that all of the NV40 drivers are in beta form. once we see some mature drivers by the middle of summer then we'll have a good ol' time.
How is the R300 core architecture ancient? It is a Dx9 compliant architecture and considering that the 'ancient architecture' still kicks nVidia's butt when it comes to Dx9 games, I don't really see anything wrong with that.Originally Posted by Tin Canary
I guess the dream lives on, yes... And, yes, I'm also reasonably sure that by the middle of the summer nVidia cards become widely available and nVidia will have put out more 'optimized' drivers to compete with Ati.Originally Posted by Tin Canary
Btw: It is funny to see how nVidiots make a big deal about Dx9.0c compliancy when e.g. one of the best line of cards nVidia ever put out, the 4Ti, was never even Dx8.1 compliant due to the lack of PS1.4 support, which e.g. the Radeon8500 had. Still, I wouldn't dare to say that Radeon8500 were the better choice over e.g. a GF4Ti4600 as a gaming card.
Nevertheless: 6800Ultra looks like an excellent performer and really does put nVidia back on the map as a valid choice. BUT: it does not put nVidia back on top.
boy you sure are quick to jump the gun. what i was trying to say is....we basically dont know what the nvidia cards are capable of yet, its a 100% new core. it could end up being a killer card, or a total piece of shit for all we know. and no, im not the nvidiot touting DX9.0C BS, but with brand new architecture, you need to give the drivers some time to mature. the R420 is R360 rehash, not a brand new core design. im not going to run out and buy one of these cards just yet, im going to wait for other suckers to get them first so i can make a more educated decision instead of believing some biased review site. sometime over the next 3-6 months, we will see people on these very forums posting their own findings with these cards, and thats when i will make my decision.Originally Posted by Pehu

The R420 is a R360 rehash ?? Don't think so !!
Didn't know the R360 supported 3DC, what can 3DC do for games..the model on the left is compressed normal maps through DXT1 and the right is using ATIs 3DC compression.
Serious Sam 2 already using 3DC.

Shows you ATI TROLLS feel unsecured about NV40...Originally Posted by kalami
So what is the problem? The how many individual molex connectors the card will need, or the how much power it will need? I wouldn't care if it even needed a third one, provided that I wouldn't need to update my 400W PSU. In fact, since the card uses quite more power than my CDs and HDDs, I prefer it using a second connector as well, so that power usage is made more "symmetrical" for the PSU, instead of having one constantly heavy-loaded line.
