    Sil3112 vs. Sil3114?

First of all i just wanna say its been a long time since ive posted here, the new site threw me for a loop a bit, but i think its nice. Glad you kept all my previous logon info!

Anyway a while ago i had thought i had saved myself the Silicon image drivers version .47's off the microsoft website, but when i needed to do a fresh OS install (due to another problem that was self-inflicted ) i tried to install the drivers but my OS said that no recognizable drives could be found. So i went back to my floppy and found that i had downloaded the 3114's drivers. I then grabbed an older version of the .32's (from here) then they installed fine. When i updated the OS at microsoft update website they had the .47's available for me to install. Ok now the question is whats the difference between the 3114's and the 3112's?

    Sil. 3114.

Based on the proven architecture of the SiI 3112™ SATALink™ PCI host controller, the SiI 3114™ is a single-chip PCI to 4-port Serial ATA (SATA) host controller. The chip is ideal for applications such as servers, workstations and storage systems featuring peripherals with this new storage interface standard. Based on a 32-bit/66 MHz PCI interface, the SiI 3114 provides support for four independent Serial ATA devices and may be incorporated into motherboard or PCI add-in card designs.

    You're knocking the wrong product.

Note in themortarman's quote the 3114 is an 66MHz chip. DFI and lots of other manufacturers decided to put the 3114 on the 33MHz PCI bus, effectively crippling the chip. My experiences with the 3114 on the 66 MHz bus were much better than what you guys are seeing.

I found the 3114 to perform quite well with 4 drives in raid 0 & 1. Raid 10 was a disappointment however...

I believe Smoked Trout is running an Iwill DK8X with the Sil.3114 controller.
