    Abit BIOS & Product requests/suggestions

Abit Marketing has suggested that we start a Sticky for "BIOS/Product requests and questions", so he can keep an eye on what we want without reading EVERY post in here.

If you have any suggestions/requests that are BIOS related, or general marketing/Quality control related etc, please post in here.

But keep it prompt and to the point.
NO SPAMMING OR OFF TOPIC DISCUSSIONS PLEASE.

Hopefully we can help Abit help us.

If you agree with something someone else posted please QUOTE their post and write "i second that", "i agree" or whatever. If you don't, your voice will not be heard.

    Cheers
    Rabbi

[EDIT] I will include all suggestions in this post so people don't have to read the entire thread.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    BIOS Suggestions/Requests

    NF7(S) Rev2
    * Fix issue with 10x & 10.5x multipliers not overclocking as well as other multis

    * Add a CPC option to BIOS, so 2x512mb setups overclock better READ THIS

    * Accurate temperature and voltage readings

    * Show on-die CPU temperature aswell as socket temperature.

    * Maybe Abit should implement 2 type ROMSIP tables:
1st romsip for sync ratio = Use D10 Romsip.
2nd romsip for async ratio =Use D11-D23 Romsip.
This will the fix Multiplier issue, and the async ratio will not crash.

    * Add CPUID recognition for XP-M chips in the D27 BIOS for the NF7-S Rev. 2.0 motherboard

    KV7
    * "Legacy USB" issue.
"Basically if you set the USB to BIOS it disables the SATA controller. I have a USB keyboard, and I can't use it prior to Windows"

    * IRQ issue with Mouse PS/2 Port IRQ (12) and USB devices .
If no PS/2 mouse is plugged into the PS/2 port the USB and Sound devices start using IRQ 12 , this creates conflicts between these devices .

    * BIOS 15 - changes made to memory timings in BIOS don't seem to be working. CPU-Z always reports timings as 5-4-9.

    KX7-333
    * Is it possible to add a 6:2:1 divider to this board?

    KV8 PRO
    * Needs working AGP/PCI lock

*fixing agp/pci ratios for 1.0 boards

    *multipliers adjustment for v1.0 boards

*vdimm up to 3.2v (2.8 is the current max but the uguru windows util can allow 3.2, so the bios should do too)

*greater stability for dividers, a number of users have found some deviders don't work well

*fixing the thermal diode that gives 70c temps randomly

    AV8
    * Multipliers not working on FX53 CPU (the BIOS options are greyed out). This is in all BIOSes up to version 1.2.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Board-Layout Suggestions/Requests

    * Add MOSFET cooling

    * Add passive Southbridge cooling

    * Provide room around CPU Socket to improve HSF compatibility

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    General Suggestions/Requests

    * Higher Vdimm on all future flag-ship motherboards (3.2v+)

    * Higher Vdd on all future flag-ship motherboards (1.9v+)

    * Provide room around CPU Socket to improve HSF compatibility

    * Abit should release BETA BIOSes with features like CPC disabled by default.
That way they wouldn't be held accountable for damage done to boards, and we would be happy.

Re: Abit BIOS & Product requests/suggestions

    I'll get the ball rolling...

    1) Tictac managed to fix the issue with 10x and 10.5x multipliers and there have been no reports of any adverse side-effects... so why can't Abit do the same with upcoming BIOS's? I'm sure Tictac would show them how

    2) As uwackme has pointed out, the lack of a "CPC Option" in BIOS means 2x512mb in Dual Channel doesn't overclock nearly as good as 2x256mb in Dual Channel. The DFI boards have a CPC option and it has proven very successful on 2x512mb setups. Could Abit add a CPC option to future BIOSes?

    1- add Mosfet cooling.
2- add southbridge cooling (passive cooling is good).
3- need a large space around the cpu.
    4- need accurate temp/volt reading(fix it).

    1- Higher Vdimm
    2- Higher Vdd
(Edit) 3- Why do you provide 2.3v VCore while there is OVP (Over Voltage Protection) on the board?

My suggestion is for the KV7 board.

Please fix the "legacy USB" issue.

Basically if you set the USB to BIOS it disables the SATA controller.
I have a USB keyboard, and I can't use it prior to Windows.

Re: Abit BIOS & Product requests/suggestions

About the accurate temp reading. Why not show on die temp? If it uses it to stop cpu to avoid damage when overheating, it shouldn't be so difficult to show it as well as the thermistor value.

Does the chipset actually support a PCI/AGP lock?

Sure it does. Look around. Every hardware site that has done a preview of the chipset say that is one of the main differences between the pro and non pro version.

Re: Abit BIOS & Product requests/suggestions

I will forward all the BIOS suggestions to our BIOS team in Taiwan but I can't promise if they are going to implement all the changes like mutliplier or the CPC issues.

The KV8 Pro with the K8T800 Pro chipset has been CONFIRMED to have AGP/PCI lock and we do have a beta BIOS that add those values. One of our tech was able to run an Athlon 64 processors with unlocked mutliplier factor up to 270Mhz rock solid. The reviews for the KV8 Pro will start to pop up soon from all the top medias that has a VIA K8T800 Pro reference board to compare with.

KV7 issue will be forwarded to our tech support department. The normal procedures are; 1. reproduce the same problem 2. confirmed and wait for beta BIOS release 3. after a short period of time of beta testing, we will release the official BIOS with the fix.

I sure hope the multiplier issue for the KV8-Pro is fixed, really gets on my nerves.

    Hmmm let me think....

Well both my sticks of BH5 512mb run fine @ high FSB on their own but not together !!

Here is my top 5 requests for the Nf7 (in no particular order)

    1) * Add a CPC option to BIOS, so 2x512mb setups overclock better
    2) * Add a CPC option to BIOS, so 2x512mb setups overclock better
    3) * Add a CPC option to BIOS, so 2x512mb setups overclock better

    5) * Add a CPC option to BIOS, so 2x512mb setups overclock better
