newbie-questions about what system I need

I want to build a pc but wonder how much cpu power I will need

currently useing a sager laptop with p4 2.53

    I burn dvd's once a week 3 or 4 of them

I would like to build a system to handle the dvd burning and for gaming

I'm thinking about the amd 64 fx51 or is that overkill for what I will be using it for

also on a budget so I was thinking about going with a dell system (P4) because they are offering free monitor

    thanks

Go with a AMD AthlonXP MOBILE 2400+. They run very low voltages and with a good heatsink and a bit more volts, you can run this cpu @ 2.5 - 2.7 easy.
With a good mobo and good ram, you'll looking at over 2.5. And yes, AMD is better for gaming.

go with a 2600Mobile (a 2800+ if you can find one). Get it with a nice sp97 and 65cfm 90mm enermax fan. Get a nice stable motherboard like a nf7-s, or a lanparty b, or infinity. Then get adata pc4000 at $60 a stick. My freind has the adata, VERY GOOD STUFF. he does 250 cas 3-4-4-7 at a very low 2.5v. And just think the infinity goes up to 3.3v, say hello to 300fsb

So why would he pay extra for the 2600+ mobile instead of a 2400+ mobile? They both yeild the same overclocks. Just the 2600+ has high stock MHz, but wo runs stock anywas? ( not anyone with a mobile amd thats for sure)

Same debate that goes for buying a 2500+ as opposed to a 2800+ I guess, (when the 2800+ is a barton).
