    you're probably using the 2.7 CD, which is fairly old at this point. they're offering an unlimited free trial of 2.8.1, you should try that instead. otherwise, use apt-get to do a dist-upgrade, and then apt-get upgrade the rest of the system. here's an easy "libranet to debian" howto: you'll probably still need or want to upgrade with 2.8.1, but it might be fewer packages.

    you might also want to try sarge instead of sid. sid is the unstable branch and theoretically...less stable.

    I have tried Fedora, Mandrake and for easy of use they are great but I find them lacking behind in speed with Genoo, not to mention you really learn a lot by using Gentoo...I vote for Genoo
