Re: Asus A8V Deluxe Technical Discussion Thread

What if you set them at 33/66? What rev # is your board?

100% Grade A B.S. I can turn to a page in my OWNER'S MANUAL that claims I can choose to run a 33/66 MHz PCI/AGP bus speed. There is no mention of this causing instability in the manual. The author of the manual obviously believed it to be a working feature.

Does anyone know if and where VIA may be advertising the lock? By advertising a board with a specific chipset, they are inherently advertising the features of the chipset. That, in conjunction with the fact that it's in the manual, gives them no room to argue.

If it turned out that it just wasn't stable on any board, then what can you do. I guess you could sue, but it wouldn't give you a lock. You'd get over it and move on. But since there are confirmed working locks on some boards, if mine doesn't work, then I'll be RMA'ing until I get one that does.

EDIT: To avoid confusion ... the quote above is not L33's quote, but Asus' quote.

    Thanks anyway
    Noticed something.

Out of the posts here where people claim the lock worked, the serial number of their board was 45MG0Jxxxx. My board is 45MG07xxxx, L33's is 45MG0Bxxxx. (last four digits don't matter for my point, thus using "x"). Anyway, I suspect the 45MG0Jxxxx boards do have the lock, anything earlier (or at least 45MG0B on down, since yours is a 0B and mine a 07) won't have it.

Again, if people don't mind posting their serial number, or at least the first six digits, and if the lock works or not. But I think I'm on to something with this, it has to have a number in the 45MG0Jxxxx range or higher for there to be a lock.

Also, if your vendor/reseller is in the USA, and you're comfortable with doing so, would you mind posting the shop you got it from? My intent isn't to hurt a store's business, but simply to see at this time which stores have what serial number of board. Zipzoomfly seems to have the 45MG0Jxxxx's, and I think one person said they got one from mwave.com that had the 45MG0j serial number. Mine (the one I didn't RMA due to not working...) was from Monarch Computer, very good reseller, plan to shop there again (they had very good prices on Corsair memory a couple weeks ago for instance), but it was a 45MG07..... The one I had to RMA was a 45MG0J and was again from Zipzoomfly.

Mine's a 45MG0J number, got it from ZZF the first day it was up on their website.

Haven't been able to try it out yet, though, hopefully within the next week.

Hey good luck, we talked in PM about this, but if my hypothesis is right, yours will have the PCI lock.

You would think that if the board had any chance of handling 1T, that the option would be entitled 1T command...auto or enabled, and that the 2T enabled therefore corresponds to the performance setting. But I'd like to be sure.

1st J was from zip 2nd J was from Mwave. locks with bios 1005.021 are in the bios and reported working, but I suspect some other fx53 related compatability issues with my board, Some random freezes at various speeds.

Update on my end. I took a risk and had a board overnighted from MWave, it's a "0j" serial number board. Locks work, I'm also using 1005.021. I have a A64 3800+ so I haven't experienced any compatability issues best I can tell. Not a super strong overclock yet, I seem to be able to get no higher then 2656 mhz no matter what the FSB, and 240 or so FSB is slightly unstable under a heavy load even with a fairly low multiplier, but I've also not really played with the memory timings yet. Still, I'm at 11.5 X 232 so I can see I now just need to take a half day to play with timings and voltages and see what I can really do. I'll also more likely then not switch from my Koolance EXOS to a more agressive watercooling setup in a month or two too.

Anyway, kind of confirms things, the "0J's" have the lock.

Anyone else have a serial number other then 45MG0Jxxxx and a working lock? So far, if I'm right, 0j works, 0b and 07 doesn't.

Err...now I have to figure out what to do with a very slightly used 07 serial number board. Almost don't want to RMA it, it works fine other then the lock, but not like I need to build a spare computer, have one already...may take my chance with e-bay, or may give it back to my dad, since he let me have it in trade for keeping the one I RMAed..err..okay, I'll stop, no need to keep going on like this.

Does this motherboard come shipped in retail box from Mwave? Thank you.

Sure, it's a retail box product. All the goodies including the Wi-Fi card.

I'm going to link to Newegg, but here's a photo of the "goodies" package:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage....131-499-05.JPG

Only thing missing from that photo is the owner's manuals (two, one for the board itself, one for the Wi-Fi card), the driver disks (again two, for the board and the wi-fi card), a WinDVD suite CD-ROM, a couple ASUS case badges (found oddly enough, in the driver disk envelopes) and of course the motherboard itself.

So otherwise, yes. Mwave is selling retail box motherboards.

Re: Asus A8V Deluxe Technical Discussion Thread

Well honk my horn! I just got my new baby installed and set up. I upgraded from my ASUS K8V Deluxe to the A8V and just for $hits and giggles I decided to let it boot into XP without doing a fresh install. The only thing that changed was the ethernet controller.

I also have a 45MG0J2796 board that I bought from Newegg before they sold out. Ordered it last Friday. Running like a top, but I cant tell you if it has locks on the PCI bus or not since I am not about to flash a beta bios or overclock it because thats not my style

Just enjoying it as is, goona go give some games a run.

    Question new bios

    hello all,
not sure if this is something new, dated today, unable to try, waiting for mb to arrive...tom57

    http://www.asus.com/support/cpusuppo...=A8V%20Deluxe&
    CPU=AMD%20Athlon%2064%203500+%20(Socket939)&BIOS=ALL

Edit: The VB software can't handle that url. Copy and paste if you can. At this moment, just the China download is working. Here is the url for that:

Bios 1006, no release notes in package. S.P.>

    Re: new bios

    Thanks tom57,
If you don't mind, I'm going to fix up your url a little bit and put your post at the end of the A8V Thread. I think those folks would appreciate it.

Edit: Now Global works and is fast. Hopefully they'll all be up pretty quick. Anyone that catches the release notes, well seeing those would be good.

Edit 2: And here it is on FTP:

    ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/a8v-deluxe/

Just pulled it down of the Chinese site link, I'll have to take a quick look in global to see if they have posted any release notes yet. Anyway, I'll install it, and give a report on what I see. If the pci lock option isn't activated on 1006, I'll probably roll back to 1005.021 beta though, since my second board's lock works.

edit: On 1006, the lock controls appear to be gone, even on a board with a working AGP lock. No setting BIOS. I did pull down from the Chinese site, not the Taiwanese site. I'm rolling back to 1005.021 BETA then unless someone confirms that 1006 from another location has the lock settings, or that the lock is "always on" in 1006 or some such.
