I don't think so, but the price is only guaranteed for a year. you can sign a contract and have it for 2 years. we also got a break because the house already had the ONT installed. chances are they're keeping rates low to spur adoption and will raise them closer to comcast's eventually
I have the $50/month Time Warner plan. They promise 15/1, but I usually get roughly 20Mbps because of their "turbo boost" which I laughed at before I got it.
I'm generally pretty happy with it. Before I thought I was the shit because I had a 5Mb/s plan from AT&T DSL. I started off getting 4Mbps on that plan, but it slowly degraded to 1Mbps. It was worse than it had been before on the 1.5Mbps plan. Customer support told me they were upgrading their network infrastructure in the Milwaukee area and I may get slow speeds for a while, but finally I told them to f*** themselves, and switched to Time Warner. Happy that I'm getting MORE than I pay for.
Would love to get fiber though. A guy I played EVE Online with was a big newsgroup pirate and he had Verizon FiOS to the house and got some crazy $200/month 100Mbps plan. Said he usually got 97.5Mbps on Speedtest, but said that at those speeds, you find that the servers your trying to tap into are actually bottlenecking you. He said Steam had amazing CDNs though and he could get good speeds from Steam games though.
That's what I got on Verizon's 4G LTE network on the HTC Thunderbolt. Seen similar speeds on the LG Revolution and Samsung Droid Charge. Actually a lot faster than Sprint's 4G WiMax. When I was in Vegas for CES in January, guys were getting 20Mbps on Verizon 4G LTE on the USB laptop cards. The Verizon rep at the show told me that they got 30Mbps on the 4G LTE network before they opened it to the public, but he said that those aren't realistic speeds on a loaded network.![]()
You guys are spoiled. I'm stuck with 5/1 for $35 a month. They offer 10/1 for $60 but that's overpriced IMO and not worth it for me.

to quote Yosemitebear "What does this mean?"
Why is it that when I run my speedtest it tells me that I have 30+ mb/s download but when I try to download stuff I cannot get anywhere past 1.5mb/s?
I have something downloading on my wifes PC capped at 1.5mb/s but it is now impossibe for me to surf the web much less watch a video on YouTube?!?
Her PC is going at 1.5mbs but when I try to download something now hers slows to 700-800kbs and I cant get any higher than 700-800kbs.
What does the 30mb/s download mean?

Remember:
kbps or kb/s is kilobits per second
kBps or kB/s is kilobytes per second (note the upper case B)
speedtest shows kbps
Download shows kB/s
one B (byte) is equal to 8 b (bits)
therefore kb/s divided by 8 will give you your kB/s
So,
The 30 mb/s equates to around 2.5 mB/sec theoretical speed. There is some overhead involved with your rigs telling the "sending" server/computer ok I got that packet; please send the next packet
Yea the sending and receiving makes sense. But I was looking at my NJ results and they were ~22mb/s and when DLing (especially from Steam) my cap was ~2.2MB/s.
Here when I do speedtest I get ~30mb/s (4MB/s) but my DL is capped at 1.5MB/s.
It just seems that there is more to the "real" DL speed other than what Speedtest is telling us. Or maybe there is a way that Cable companies/Speedtest are boosting the results.

OK... Here is my conclusion... Speedtest.net is wildly inaccurate and utterly USELESS. I don't know what they are counting but it is not what you true speed is... or at least not what mine is here in Vegas.
This website is accurate and it graphs exactly what I am getting at home.

I am calling the cable company to whine/bitch/moan/complain.![]()

So I called and complained and they fixed it, now I am getting what I have been paying for.
When they installed the internet I ran speedtest.net and I said oh great I am getting more than what I paid for when the truth was that I was getting much less.
I ran Speedtest.net again just for the fun of it and it also saw the boost. lol
But its wrong of course I am only getting 25mb/s, which is what I am paying for. That site is useless!
