    A64 3200+ 512kb L2

    A64 3200+ 512KB L2. maybe even the 3400+ 512KB?

Anywhere in the States selling them yet?

I dont really want to start a debate on the 512KB vs. 1024KB cache thing. My needs prefer the extra clockcycles. Mind you, I'm upgrading from a non-OC'd palomino core 1700+. (had to sell my dual athlon and dual PIII systems for upgrade).

If you are buying a Retail CPU then it appears the 1024Kb Clawhammers are pretty much gone from the popular mainstream places and they are shipping the 512K Newcastles now for the 3200+. I've never seen a 512K 3400+ yet.

I doubt I'll spend extra for retail. All I've ever bought was OEM before.

I'm really itch'n for a new CPU, I have my GA-K8NSNXP ordered. ...just haven't killed the credit card yet with a CPU..

Unfortunately, I got a Newcastle (2.2ghz) 3200+ from Newegg. Sounds like that's about all they've got now. I wanted a 'hammer so mines being returned.

I don't see what's wrong with having a higher clocked 512k chip. I wouldn't mind it... newer silicon, higher multi, higher MHz to begin with, which seems to make more difference than the extra 512k *most* of the time. Granted, it is cool to be able to say you have a 1 MB L2 cache, but it doesn't really matter that much

Where are you getting the Clawhammer from or are you getting an OEM?

Ordered a 3400+. Luckily those haven't been castrated to 512k yet.

I'm in the same situation! The Clawhammer 3200+ I got was for my son but I was going to get one. I've decided I'll either get a 754 3400+ or a 939 3500+. I really want to wait for the Asus 754 NF3 250 board to come out if I go that route but if I go the 939 route now I'm limited to a KT800Pro and I really want to get a NF3 instead. I'm ready to buy but none of my choices are available yet.

    One(two) last dumb question...

Are all the 512KB 3200+'s of the newer "CG" stepping? Or is there a chance I might get one of the older "CO" stepping?

I'm praying that what ever I order is the CG.

By looking at AMD's data sheets the 512kb 2.2Ghz is only a AK, CG stepped part. AMD has made a mess of the 754 CPU stucture so who knows what you'll get.

I only find the 2.2Ghz in retail, I cannot find one OEM, that would be the one I want. An OEM 2.2Ghz AK PN CG CPU. NOT from Newegg.com.

Not from Newegg? Did they go south or something? Or did I misunderstand?

If retail is all I can get, fine by me. I'd rather not pay for a heatsink that I'll throw away or cut up for RAM sinks. ...

ZZF doesn't really elaborate on which cores they carry. Their specs are conflicting on their OEM unit.

The one you have listed is a AP model all that data is correct for the 'older model'.

I have to pay tax at Newegg almost 10%, it takes all the fun out of it for me now.

    $300= $330 for me.

Maybe I misunderstand the logic behind your thinking but if I was overclocking it seems you would want a retail CPU that comes with a 3 year warranty instead of an OEM one that has a 30 day warranty. After all you are overclocking and pushing this CPU to its limits and a chance of a $270 part going bad because of this is very possible. We are only talking like a $10-15 price difference here. Now if the OEM part was a better stepping for overclocking then I guess I could understand.

Even if I were to get the retail, the only way I would be able to send it back is if it was DOA. In which if it were, even an OEM in most cases can be sent back within 15+ days depending on vender.

I dont keep paperwork, receipts or boxes of any sort. I spend close to $4000 a year on PC stuff, theres no way I can keep track.

The only CPU's I've had die in the last 20 some odd years were because of my actions. Sending something back because I killed it would be fraud(my opinion).

You are right though, the added few dollars would be worth it for the extra protection. Its just I like to know exactly what I'm getting ahead of time.
