Is the new Celeron D an AMD killer?

Anyone catch the review of the 330 & 335 cpus at Xbit Labs? This chip OCs to 3.8 Ghz and costs $105! In the benches, it beat my beloved 3200+ by quite a bit. Could this be a sign that Intel is going to pay attention to the OC market and what does it bode for AMD?

umm, the 2700+ kicks its ass in every gaming test. Not to mention a 2.5GHz mobile

It kicks it's ass at stock speeds, however the 1100mhz OC that they managed to acheive with the 2.66Ghz celeron, put it ahead of nearly everything but the P4E 3.2Ghz processor in most benchmarks.

Exactly! The OC potential of this cpu is tremendous and you can get it for $105. Add an 865PE mobo for $95 and for $200 you have a monster.

yea, id like to know what kind of cooling they were using to get a 1100mhz OC out of a prescott core

wtf, it barely beat the 3200+. Note the 3200+ is a 2.2GHz pro whereas the celeron was at 3.8, thats pretty disgusting. And I can get a 2500Mobile and oc to 2.5GHz-2.6GHz and have a nice healthy 230MHz FSB

... AMD's chips have always been faster clock for clock... It means nothing.

what Im sayin is, how can one compare an overclocked chip to a stock chip. If you want to compare a 3.8 celeron d, how bout we compare it against a 2.5-2.6Ghz barton?

Re: Is the new Celeron D an AMD killer?

I'll admit that the new Celeron D is much better than the older Celeron, which was a pathetic piece of crap. However, it still can't touch the better Athlon XPs. If you compare the Celeron D to the Athlon XP 2700+ at stock speeds, it gets wasted. The Celeron D only has 256K of L2 cache against the 512K L2 cache of the Athlon XP. The Celeron D is a great overclocker, as has been pointed out already. But you have to remember that few computer users overclock their CPUs by that much. I doubt any enthusiast would buy a Celeron D over an Athlon XP 3000+. unless he really wanted to overclock it.

No, AND still has the better offerings in the budget market.
