howdy, owners of ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB post here please . how many FPS are you getting on games? (list games please), what are your opinions on the card, do you regret buying it? do you enjoy it? what nvidia card would you compare it to closest?, do you over clock, if so how much?, what 3dmarks03 are you getting? other benchmark tests? you don't have to answer all the questions but just some facts. intrested in buying one, but i want to stay nvidia really, but i think ATI may be better for some reasons, cheers

Does anyone have their playstation 2 or Xbox hooked up to the 9800 Pro if so hows the quality and is there any type of delay between controller and image?

Ive got a few extra minutes before I gotta go to work... why not.... ok, first off, if you do go with a 9800PRO, your gonna wanna get an Arctic Cooling VGA silencer and some decent ramsinks. This combo will help you oc your card like none other. Mine is currently running at 420core/730mem, and I would compare its performance in most games to my friends 5950U. However, I would be more accurate to say that it compares very close to a 5900U.

As far as benchmark scores go, im not that into 3dmark 2001, but 03 im getting a solid 6825. Soooo, take that for what you will, they are after all just synthetic benchmarks and real world fps do differ quite a bit from bench. score (at least in my exp.). For real fps, im getting just under 80fps in CS Steam and CZ at 1280x1024 w/driver quality setting on max quality. In Painkiller it hopps around a bit more but at 1280x1024, AA and AF up, Billinear its idling at about 48fps and peaks around 63fps while slowing to 29fps in some intense areas.

Wll, I do hope that helps, I can say that I took a plunge getting this 9800 (thanks Ubermench!) and I am VERY satisfied with it! Especially for the 200 I paid for it, it keeps up with or easily beats anything you can buy from nVidia for 200 bucks. Good luck and happy fragging!!

That was originally for the 9600XT's and 9800XT's but within a few months ATI quickly dropped the program for the 9600's and just stuck with the 9800XT's. The PRO model was never included in the free HL2 bundle offer. Otherwise that would be money!

I think it's a great card for the money, but if I was buying now I'd personally look at the X800 Pro. If you can only manage $200 then it's a great value, I'd pretty much consider this the MINIMUM GAMER's video card. It'll probably be fine for another year or two.

Re: ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB Owners

I like my 9800 pro now that I finally figured out what i had wrong with my system. I dunno what it was but it seemed that every VIA chipset system I plugged it into it would VPU crash and would not work right at all, (no matter which 4 in 1 drivers i used) so I just broke down and bought a NF7-s and it solved all my problems.

I get about 6600 in 3dmark 2003, in CS i get over 100 fps at 1024x768 and in ut2004 i am not sure what fps i am running, but at 1280x1024 with the details up, it looks pretty smooth. It also looks dang good in NFSU when i play that, albeit rarely.

I'd say if you can't get the bucks up for a newer Nvidia/ATI card, the 9800 pro is your best bet. (this commign from an nvidia fanboy)

Re: ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB Owners

i got 3448 running the free trial of 3dmark 03, eep!

the weird thing is, i've got a pretty good system

    athlon 64 3200+
    gigabyte k8vnxp mobo
768 mb of pc2100 RAM (left over from my old pc, this might be the problem!!)
    80gb hdd
    Gigabyte radeon 9800 pro 128mb

any ideas why the bmark sucks, could it be my crappy unmatched, slow RAM?

I'm happy with the 9800 pro, i got it pretty cheap, and its performing well on farcry, i get an avg of about 43 fps with highest settings on all but texture quility (auto detected settings)

cant wait to see how it handles hl2 and doom3

Re: ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB Owners

I am most very certain HL2 will run fine. Seeing as the 9800Pro and XT are targetted towards mid-range-price gamers, the game will obviously sport great FPS at least up to 1024X1024. I use a 21in monitor (more of a bad habit), and I only think a X800 would let me crank HL2 up to 1600X1200

I plan on buying a 9800 pro when HL2 comes out...or slightly before it. Look around... some vendors include the HL2 voucher with the 9800 pros (all XTs come with HL2 voucher..).

9800 pro = best ATI value, and better than most comparable GF cards. see the VGA Charts review under graphics @tomshardware.com, a large large card lineup.

I might add that if you're going to get a 9800 pro, that you get the Sapphire. Same price as all the others ($200), but offers the best overclocking right out of the box. I plan to stay at stock speeds until I start to need a few extra FPS.
