Novell seem to be keeping their promise anyway. Just hope that UK shipments are still on the list

Yes, I was wondering if it's possible to create a CD set from the Suse 9.1 Pro bootable installation DVD - anyone know?

Got mine in last week, I have to admit SuSE has done an excellent job. This is the 1st distro I have tried that had direct support for Wide-Aspect laptop screens. most others require lots of editing and setup. I was able to load nvidia proprietory drivers, and do the complete set-up and have found only one need to open a terminal (to get the type requests for my extra buttons on my keyboard)

the disk says evaluation copy and it reminds you of this during the install also "this is an evaluation copy and cannot recieve support until purchased" who uses company support anyway, friends, forums, and Google has always worked for me.

You do have to go here https://portal.suse.com/PM/page/logi...nid=rdvu3o1sg1 to register (It's Free!) in order to dowload updates directly through Yast update. They will email you a password and you can log back in and change it to anything you like. Yast Update will update after that (you will have to input your registered username and password) and all is quite easy to setup and use provided you are not using an ATI video card (at least of the 9800 pro flavor)

It is definitely a step in the right direction. and most definintly could eliminate the need for Windows on this machine at all. This machine is the Dell laptop in my sig.

So, does the CD never time out?? As in Suse 9.1 Pro.

Some things I really like about the Suse distro. It easily loaded in a Virtual PC image and some of the management tools were nice. I never could get ACL's to work in my Virtual PC image of Fedora Core 2 and Suse never skipped a beat during the install and all facets of the OS seemed to be working fine including ACL's. I was thinking about loading the server side and playing with Groupwise to see how it stacks up to Exchange. Anybody used the Novell server side services to any extent?? I'm not a big time Novell guy so I was wondering what was going on with their directory services, etc.. under Linux.

Re: Free Linux CDs from Novell

I'm not sure if this would be legal, but here's a suggestion:

If it's legal (and someone could provide me with an image), I'd be prepared to host the image (of suse pro 9.1) on my ftp server for download by our members. I don't have too much bandwidth so it would be slow but might be better than nothing for those that missed out.

So, can someone advise if this is legal or not please?

All of the files are on DVD. The Suse 8.2 DVD is broken up into 4 CD isos. The Suse 9.1 is not broken up, one bootable DVD, 4.3+GB.

Is it possible to create CD iso images from the DVD - a provided script maybe? I know I can do this with my Fedora DVD.

I have the space to host, but at my upload speeds (your download speed) of about 100MB/hour that would take 40+ hours for a user to download

I guess it's just not viable for me to host
