A little help my daughter's Dell is crapped

My daughter has a Dell Inspiron 600M.

She says it is stuck in the "power saving mode" (whatever that is) and when she turns in on it is dead, no video nothing.

She is in Seattle and I am in Illinois and I have never owned or played with a lap top so I am at a loss. Any ideas, power supply shot maybe? It think it is one year old.

I think she means it's stuck in Windows hibernate mode.

Get her to push and hold the power button in for more than 10 seconds. It should completely shut off. Then power it up as normal. That should snap it out of its slumber.

Another trick is to try to flip the video output between the laptop's screen (default) and an external monitor. Most laptops have a regular D-SUB monitor connector to alow you to hook up a CRT. You shouldn't need to actually attach an external monitor to do this. Since it's a Dell laptop, hold down the FN (function) key and press F8 to swap between the two outputs. That should wake up the monitor. Give it a few seconds before changing back as it's a bit slow to change.

Thanks for the help so far.

I have relayed this info to her by email, but no reply back yet. She may have to be at work to receive my emails since her lap top is out.

I'll will post back when I hear.
