Re: Asus K8N-E DELUXE IN-STOCK at ZipZoomFly

I waited a really long time for this board, and a week ago I just gave up and got the MSI K8N Neo Platinum. Oh well the neo was cheaper. Ill get an Asus board in a few years when I switch to the 939pin cpus

Re: Asus K8N-E DELUXE IN-STOCK at ZipZoomFly

I finally ordered this motherboard today and also purchased a Newcastle 3400+. I should be getting my BFG 6800GT by next week since it backordered, Also have 2 brand new Retail 74 Gig Raptors ready for a Raid 0, and a Gig of the Mushkin 222 Special memory. Also have a Antec Sonata with Antec True power 430, Retail Audigy 2, Liteon 8X DVD, and Dell Ultrasharp 1800FP 18 Inch monitor.

I must say I'm very disappointed in the Customer service I got from Zipzoomfly. I was having a problem ordering from there site so yesterday I call at 08:30 when they opened and couldn't talk to a person so left a message with the usual promise they would call me back. Here it is 2 days have gone by and still no call back. I tried all day yesterday to get through and finally got through at 5:15 PM just before quitting time. If you want good customer service then don't order through ZipZoomfly.com. BTW they still have no idea why I can't order from there site and really don't seem to care one way or another. There solution was for me to come up with another form of payment.

I ended up ordering my CPU from MonarchComputers at:

    http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ory_Code=AMD64

and my motherboard from Ajump.com at:

    http://www.ajump.com/ajump/product.a...2D99%2D9740158

I've ordered from Monarch before and they are very good and I don't have to pay sales tax but I've nevered ordered from Ajump.com. They have pretty good resellerratings so I'm crossing my fingers. I got tired of waiting for Newegg to get this motherboard. I E-MAIL'd newegg about getting an ETA for this motherboard and they claim they can't give me one.

    Must...resist...the...urge...to...click...CHECKOUT!

This is as bad as waiting for a baby to be born, the 939 processors are out, but where are the $150 939 motherboards?
I would imagine they are about 2 to 3 months out. When the 754's came out, they were priced similarly to the 939s. It took about 3 months, but they came out with lower clocked chips at MUCH lower prices.

The thing is, the 939 performance isn't THAT much better than 754. The only real advantage is dual channel memory access and it's been shown that the Athlon64 doesn't derive a very large benefit from this capability because of the integrated memory controller.

BTW, on an unrelated topic, does anyone know if AMD will be realeasing an AMD 64 chip that can handle 3 sticks of PC 3200 at full speed?

technically it's not even 3 but 2 double-sided modules...but some board manufacturers have engineered mobos that don't necessarily have this limitation. and no, i have no idea, but one revision of the CG cores was improved mem compatibility...so i'd assume they're addressing this issue to a degree.

    from THG (http://www.tomshardware.com/motherbo...602/index.html):

The Athlon64's memory controller is subject to a restriction that should not be underestimated, especially by the ambitious user: according to AMD's specification, it does not have the capability to operate two double-sided memory modules with a 200 MHz clock rate (DDR400 alias PC3200). According to the data sheet, a maximum configuration of 166 MHz or DDR333 is allowed in such devices. But who is going to buy a powerful processor only to nip its potential in the bud with slow memory? Single-sided DDR400 DIMMs with 512 MB per module, such as would be required for an optimally configured Athlon64 system, are scarcely available in specialist shops - instead the "Matched Memory" packages tend to dominate, which manufacturers construe as two guaranteed, identical DIM modules. However, the sophisticated-looking elements nearly always turn out to comprise mere 2x8 256 Mbit memory chips per module.

Got my Motherboard Today! I'm still waiting for my 3400+ and they won't be delivering it until Monday. I'll post again when I get it togather and give everyone my impressions. My other computer has a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with a 3200+ so I do have something to compare to. BTW Newegg also now has the Asus at http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...131-498&depa=0 . It ticks me off that they were only 2 days away from getting this motherboard yet they were totally unable to give me any idea of when they would recieve it in stock.

    dirtrat,
Would you mind tellling us the brand of capacitors used on the board (specifically the ones close to the socket). Also, it is a three-phase board correct?
