    Lightbulb Crucial Anouncement!!!

For all you gamers(sorry, company thing you know) Crucial has come out with new memory modules designed for you. The Ballistix brand is now active on our website and it has a website of its own which can be found at: http://www.crucial.com/ballistix/ This memory has been tested and is capable of reaching 500MHz+ anything above 500MHz is on your own. The Ballistix memory is PC3200 CL-2, DDR2 PC4200 and PC5300, so give the website a once over and ask any questions that you are unable to find the answers to on the website. This is a big step for us but one we feel needed to happen. You will find the same top quality we use in our standard offerings so be assured you are getting the top of the line memory for your systems.

    The name cracks me up.
Glad to see Crucial stepping up.

"CL2" isn't much to go on. What are the other timings?

    Darned interesting!

    Any reviews coming out?

Testing actually prove your aluminum heatspreaders are effective vs just for show?

Trust me when I say we were not in the loop when they named the modules. Hehe, I think the name is funny as well. Because the offering is so new I do not think there are any reviews out yet but I am sure a bunch will be in the works. As far as what type of chips they are using I will have to do some research on this to find out for you. We are using quality Micron chips on these modules.

Yes, Heatsinks do work. The local University did testing on memory modules using heatsinks and ones that did not use heatsinks and they found heatsinks do dissipate the heat by 10 to 20%. The research was never published because it did not give us what we wanted which was trying to prove the idea that heatsinks do not work.

So if this is up to date, then the ballistix have the "5b" chips?

They could be b5 chips, but this is not confirmed. I do not think that Micron has updated the datasheets for this specific line yet.

Just called the number here and was transfered to Tom. The DRAM componet guy according to the lady that answered the phone. He said that the "mt -5b's" were the fastest chips that Micron currently makes for DDR 1. He also said that any sticks with Micron modules that where being sold as higher than pc3200 would just be the "mt-5b's" overclocked.

So if this is the case, what is it about these (512mb) sticks that would make any of us want to pay an extra $40 or $50 considering that we can get the same chips for around $100 from different makers?
