You might also include the instructions to do the same thing if the card has already been installed, if it differs from doing it when fist installing the card. Some people might want to go in and assign an IRQ without having to go thru the un-install/re-install bit.

Well I'm quoting myself so I don't have to ask again. But I asked roughly this same thing in my mobo specific forum (gigabyte) and the answers I got varied but basically said that if you disable an irq it comes back when you reboot xp. Also, if all your irq's are used you pretty much have to share irq's. And one reply said to do a re-install and hit f5 so can select standard computer as apposed to acpi. And lastly, maybe the best suggestion was "if aint broke, don't fix it" which is probably what I will do since my Aud 2 ZS is working fine without it's own discreet irq. So I would say that the whole irq issue is very specific to one's system and operating software. In other words, if your having a problem with the Audigy a separate irq may indeed be the fix. However, IMHO I don't believe that a separate and discreet irq is warranted for every install on every system.

its not warranted as it may play nice.

But heck.. I'm not taking chances
its easy to disable a serial port.
fiddle around in BIOS and turn it off.
took me whole lot of 2 mins.

2 mins of turning off an IRQ and giving the Audigy its own one = lifetime of hassle free music/gaming/dvd's.

Your rudimentary guide should also include the steps to assigning the discreet IRQ to the Audigy....but I am stating the obvious...sorry

True, but IDE and other stuff, as you put it, is not audio, but neither is disabling an IRQ, or anything of that nature....

Contridictory if you ask me; either way, no biggie......

Re: Audigy 2 ZS install guide.

Hey, heres a question.. ifanyone might know.

At first I was hearing static noise on the audigy when i would press more than 1 key at once on the keyboard. Like if your on AIM< and you hold down shift, ctrl, tab, and maybe 1 or 2 letter keys, you hear static noise, sharp noises while winamp might be playing.

Now iT doesnt happen while on aim or normal typing anymore, but lets say your in a game, in this case starcraft : broodw ar, and your in game and you start pressing a lot of keys i hear my winamp in the background get taht static noise.

I had my audigy2 zs card on my old mobo working perfectly but i blew out the mobo, and I got a new one, and since i put the card on the new one, its just not working like it used to, I tried a new audigy card too, no luck, It has to be some kind of setting but I just don't know, or perhaps I had some differnet install the first time around. Right now im instaled with limited creative programs, like 5, and no media source and drivers updated to the latest.

    thanks if anyone can help

Check that after the new install that your sound and video cards are not sharing the same IRQ under device manager.

If they are, move the soundcard to a different pci slot.

Re: Audigy 2 ZS install guide.

    Thanks for reply.

I just checked, video card is on irq 19, and creative on 16.

Correct me if I am wrong, but i thought IRQ was 0-15.. On winxp, it shows it on 19 and 16?

I hope someone has an explanation for this , thats just as bad as my old win2k system showing everything on irq 9 :P

have a go at that thread.

basically you need to assign an IRQ to the Audigy so that it doesn't share.
    1-15 are actual IRQ's..
16 onwards are virtual IRQ's given by windows XP to allow you to have more peripherals.

Some audigy's don't play nice. best give them their own IRQ

haha.. yeah. Do you suggest any IRQ? Has there been one irq that works with sound blaster cards better ? BTW, I saw on some other thread, someone replaced their ps2 keyboardw ith a usb and the noise stoped.. but the thing is, i have a 4port kvm, and it goes through that.. i guess if i cant figure out problem, try a ps2 to usb adapter? heh.. but i'd rather get the irq thing worked out fiirst

any IRQ that is not assigned to anything.

I'd suggest one of the serial ports or Parellel port IRQ's.
    Cheers.

Thanks. Question.. I set the irq in my bios, but windows still shows the other iQ.. 16 i think it was.. Would windows still show the other IRQ even though I set it inbios for something else ?
