Reusing Dell memory

I have a friend that gave me 2x256 sticks of PC2700 memory from his Dell, I tried putting them into my a7n8x-e board with another 512MB stick of 2700 and it refuses to boot. Both with two sticks and just one of them installed. Even by themselves it won't boot.
Can't dell memory be used in other systems or does it only work on their systems?

Yes, Dell memory can be used, if it is compatible with your board. I do not know the specifics on the dell ram you have, but I can tell you that I worked as a computer tech and I have pulled dell memory and used it in a different computer.

First make sure you are not running the Dell ram out of spec. You probably can't run that ram much past 166fsb.

Any thoughts?

It appears that memory is pretty crappy. It is rated as CL3, which nForce doesn't like. Also, nForce2 boards are picky in regards to RAM. This RAM will work in other boards, like an Intel board or a VIA board, but I doubt it will ever work in a nForce2 board. In fact it pretty much said it wouldn't when I researched it.
