    AK35GTR sound card issue

I am having a problem with installing the drivers for this board. It has a C-media8738. I have tried under windows98,XP Pro, and 2000Pro, all with thier respective drivers but everytime i install them and then reboot the system locks up. If i reboot in safe mode and uninstall the driver the system works fine. I'm thinking it's a bad board but thought maybe someone else would have an idea. Anyone got one?

    Welcome to the Forums!

Which version of the audio drivers are you using & where did you get them?

It was a serious PITA trying to install the C-Media 9739A Drivers on my new Epox 8RGMI so I know what you're going through, they sound sweet now that I'm done.

I got the AK35GT2 (no RAID) - gave it to a relative more than a year ago. I don't recall any problem installing or using the onboard sound, and that was with Windows 98SE. Just used the latest drivers from the Shuttle support website.

I also "bought" (free after MIR) a Maddog 4.1 sound card recently which has the 8738 SX chip on it....no problems installing it....sounded quite good actually.

Did you check Windows System Info for IRQ conflicts?

Well as far as what version, I used the ones that came with the board from shuttle. I also went to thier web site and got the most recent ones and they didn't work either, so I went right to cmedia and got it from them, still won't work. As far as irq conflicts I can't find anything. I just reformated and installed windows2000 pro, and before installing anything other than the OS I installed the sound drivers, still wouldn't boot. My personal system uses the same chip and drivers and I have never ran into this before, it works great. I don't know, I have never had problems with cmedia before which is why I think it's a bad board

What are your system specs and are you overclocking the FSB? It's only a KT266A board and really only rated for 133 (266 DDR) FSB speeds.

If you aren't overclocking, then I'd have to think it might be the board, also.
