    Internet Explorer pop up

Using IE 6.0, and no SP. (with Win98SE)

Every time I visit the forums, I get two IE pop ups as soon as the page is locked in and loading.

These pop ups say the following:

"This page provides potentially unsafe information to an activeX control. Your current security settings prohibit running controls in this manner. As a result, this page may not display correctly."

I get two of these each time I change forums, but none when entering a thread. I do not get these pop ups at any other forum, even some that have upgraded to this software version (Techimo & [H]ard forums to name a couple).

It does not appear to make any difference if I set the security setting at minimum.

There has been a few times visiting here that the pop ups did not happen.

I sometimes use Mozilla Firefox browser, and have not had a pop up when using that browser.

    Tnx...

This should be in Tech Talk or Networking and Operating systems...

have you tried turning the security level down? try this:

Internet Explorer > Tools Internet Options... > Privacy > Then move the bar down to Medium, give that a shot, you could also try upgrading IE (all security patches), which is proberly best since there is tons of exploits, or even better, use Mozilla Firefox, good luck. and this is what im looking at on Windows XP, so in Windows 98 it may be slightly different, but maybe not since we are both using IE6... good luck anyways

    Thanks for the input..

I looked around before posting here, this looked like as good as any.

I have lowered all security settings, then raised them again. The one you mentioned under privacy is now on medium..and has been for several weeks.

I don't do the SP's unless absolutely necessary...too many hardships in the past with getting the system back up and running after a SP update that caused more problems than it fixed.

I probably will not be using Winxp...so, can't check that out..but this is a dual boot machine with Win2K Pro.. I can try that and see what happens..otherwise, I can just use Firefox or, continue to click the OK button on the pop ups and proceed as if nothing had happened.

I would proceed in install service packs, it shouldn't give you problems, it should reduce them, and give you a less risk of an exploit hazard, but sure, most people in the forums use Mozilla Firefox, and so you should too

Have you tried doing a custom level for security setting?

    Re: Internet Explorer pop up

Yes I have BullDog, but not sure since I have come back to this forum.. I have been absent from AMDMB for a long time.

But, I did try some custom settings awhile back..do not remember now why..whatever it was, the custom settings didn't help.

Now, since I created this thread.. I have had no more pop ups..this is normal..may go a day or two without pop ups, then they are back. I really wonder if the problem is here with my install or elsewhere. I think I will run Win2K for a week or two and see how that works.

    Thanks.
