    BIOS Tweaks Help Please

Trying to locate definitive answers on some BIOS tweaks.

Can someone explain in the least technical terms applicable what each of any of these settings do, and if they generally effect performance or stability?

PCI Latency Clk - I actually have a TV Tuner card in one of the PCI slots - Performance has been ok but changing channels and loading take forever. Clk is at 32, should I move to 64 or 128?

SB600 - Spread Spectrum - From what I've researched, enabling this produces a major performance hit and is totally unnecessary unless there you are running several M/B's in very close proximity.

PCIE Config - I only have 1 3870 and CCC says it is running as Gen 2 so I will likely just leave alone.

HT link width - I have it set to 16, any reason to set to Auto?

DQS Training - Skip or Perform? I have seen reccomendations both ways, but w/o any explanation. It is defaulted to Skip.

CKE Power Down Mode - Enable/ Disable

CKE Power Down Control- Per Channel or per CS (I think CS is clock speed of RAM in my case 800 @ 812)

    Mem clock Tri-stating - Enable/ Disable

    Bank Swizzlemode - Enable/ Disable

    HT Link Control

    IA Flow control Mode

    HT Link Tri-state - CAD/CTRL or CAD/CTRL/CLK

    2X LCLK Mode

    Unit ID Clumping - Auto/Disabled/

    Unit ID - 2/3 or B/C or 2/3 and B/C

I appreciate the knowledge and assistance that anyone can provide.

What is the make and (specific) model of the motherboard? Some of it should be vaguely explained in there and at the least, if we can read the manual ourselves we can help decipher what each one does. Oldbrave's link does have a couple of answers for you - including the first two (PCI Latency Timer and Spread Spectrum).

Yep - I saw those. These subsytem setting aren't in manual. My Board is in My System link. I posted in the Gigabyte section as well. It is Award BIOS - not sure too much different from other AWARD BIOS.

I'd be interested on some of these settings as well. I have them for my DFI 790FX-MR2 motherboard and I don't feel like testing each setting individually and then benching and stressing to see what it did for my system. Not enough time right now, so if anyone knows about these settings, this would help me out as well!

Brave - I noticed we are running very similar hardware. I never thought of running the CPU at that voltage. I have it at a modest 1.375 and temps are 2-9C over ambient. What are your temps? What prog did you use to stress test?

Usually you don't mess about too much in your bios unless you know what effect the changes that you are making. If you have changed some setting and can't quiet remember what you have altered, then just use the optimised settings in your bios and then go and tweek the ones you do understand the effect it has on your system.
The link oldbrave gave you is ideal to learn what effects the changes you make as no one really can give you a straight answer to your question as no system is alike even the ones with similar hardwares.

Hope I am not too blunt , happy learning.

    Re: BIOS Tweaks Help Please

My temps are listed in my systems list and I burn in by looping 3Dmark 05 and SiSoftware Sandra burn in for at least 4 hours then I usually drop the HTT (or fsb) a couple of notches just to keep it from being on the ragged edge. The OC that I'm at now is every bit as stable as default settings.
One of the reasons that my system is so stable is that , basicly I'm not even running the memory at default settings, it's under clocked by 10 Mhz.
