Re: Asus A7V600-x, BSOD with memory dump, PLEASE HELP!

well I changed the SDRAM command control to disabled and I actually was able to install SP2 before I got the screen, and I've actually not had that screen since then. I've also tried the Microsoft test and it came up with no errors. I guess I'll install SOFII and see how things go, I'll keep you all posted. You folks have been a big help, I wish I could repay you.

Re: Asus A7V600-x, BSOD with memory dump, PLEASE HELP!

okie dokie, after some serious installing of some programs such as SP2 and SOFII my computer managed to make it through the installations. I'm still a little concerned because I still get the errors when I run memtest. I don't get any errors when I run the Microsoft memory test. I also took my sound card out and ran the test and still get the errors. I'm not going to worry about it until I get the BSOD again if I ever do. I just went and played SOFII which I'm assuming uses a lot of memory, and my computer held up just fine on normal graphics, and I'm going to try it on high quality graphics after class, lemme know what you guys think i should do about the memtest errors. thanks again.

Re: Asus A7V600-x, BSOD with memory dump, PLEASE HELP!

What memory timings are you using? Your last post was a bit vague - only gave 3 of the 4 values.

Your screen in BIOS should show 4 timing, something like 3-3-3-8 or 2.5-2-2-7.

Timings which are too tight can cause memory errors.

Post them here for more input.

Sorry about not giving enough information, I'm just not too familiar with Memory and it's settings. I downloaded CPUID and it said these timings (note this is with both sticks in):
    2.5-3-4-7...hope that's all you needed.

Is that on the memory or SPD tab of CPU-Z?
I think that is memory tab as SPD will most likely show more relaxed settings.

On CPU-Z go into the "About" tab and click on save results. Save them to whereever (desktop is always good) and open the file (txt document).

It will give information on what the actual SPD settings for both your modules individually in there at both 166 & 200 mHz.

Post back with the info for both of your modules and we can advise what to set your memory at for stability (and hopefully a pass a memtest).

OK - for optimum stability you want to use 3-4-4-8 (highest settings for the combination).

Try memtest with that and see if it gives you any errors.

Truth be told that aint the best of RAM - the 4-4 will make it a pretty poor performer - even my cheap SAMSUNG value RAM is 3-3-3-8 (although it crashes at this and runs stable at 2.5-3-3-8).

I went in and set it at 3-4-4-8 and I restarted my comp and I got a series of long beeps, basically meaning it wasn't going to work, anything else I should try? BTW: i'm not getting these errors on the full tests, I'm getting them when i press C, then 4-memory sizing, then (2) BIOS - ALL, and then I see the errors...don't know it that matters, I still shouldn't get any errors.

Never tried that. If I wanted a real thorough test, I would use the "Probed" option along with the extended test (takes forever to run though). Alternatively "Probed" with 2 passes on the standard test means a system is rock solid.

Can't understand why your RAM timings are so poor and why it won't post with these relatively loose timings. Maybe you should ask in the memory forum?

I wonder if having different brands has something to do with it.

Have you tried board with one or the other stick alone?

I'll go ahead and do that probed test your talking about while I'm at work, and yes I have tried to test with each stick in alone and I still get the errors.

ok, I ran the probed test, cached and un-cached for 2 hours each and I didn't get any errors...so like you said, my computer is rock solid? I'm just about to say screw those other errors, seems like they mean nothing.
