Artic Silver 5 Questions

Ok, I have some AS5 on the way (SVC 3 gram tube for $5.99 free First Class Shipping!) and was reading over the instructions. I noticed for AS5, it says to only apply a layer to the core of the CPU. Does anyone recommend differently, as I notice most people apply the thermal grease to the heatsink instead. Any other words of advice would be appreciated.

I just did this today building my new rig..I recommend that you do it, its prolly better to keep it much cooler. Just apply a little dab of the compound and install.

i rather do it the way you do it with shin etsu. 2 pieces of tape, a CC, and a few dabs

Yeah, that's what I was talking about, was wondering if there was really any difference between the two methods.

I remember from the AS website that you put a dab on the heatsink but you rub it in, with a plastic glove so as not to get it on your skin, until you see a very, very thin layer of AS5, then wipe off the excess aroun the area where the core will touch. Tehn you put a dab of AS5 on the core and carefully with like an credit-card you don't use or something similar, you spread it around as evenly as you can.

I prefer using my hand (covered in a new plastic bag) just the way like I used to do it (without the plastic bag).
