ASUS A7N8X-E-DELUXE & Dual Channel RAM

Hello everyone, I'm new to your forum and I have a question. I have a ASUS A7N8X-E-DELUXE MB and I went from single channel RAM to "Corsair 1024MB DDR400 PC3200 TwinX Dual memory RAM". How can I tell that I'm running in Dual Channel Mode?

Look in the motherboard manual, it will tell you which two slots to use for dual channel, typically its 3 & 2 or 3 & 1, but your board might be different.

I did that, so should I just take it for granted?

Well, on some boards, the NF7 series for example, it states "dual channel enabled" on the dos screens as the system boots, not sure if ASUS boards do the same?

They do, You should see a post stating "Single Channel" or "Dual Channel" in reference to your ram right at the initial System Post. Just before your board counts up how much ram is installed.

You could also download CPU-Z and check the Memory Tab.

I checked there and my system boots up so fast I don't see it. The only place that I can pause during boot-up is at the screen were it shows Master/slave, IDO ports and such. If I DL memtest, will that give me the info I'm looking for?

Go into your bios and disable your quick post feature.. (make the board actually count the ram) That should slow down your post long enough to be able to see it. Then you can go back in and turn it back on.

T.N.D, which model number exactly on that RAM? I'm real curious to see how everything works for you as far as stability, what settings you have your Memory set at in BIOS etc., as I am building a new system with that exact MB as well. The only thing I have not bought yet is Memory. Still trying to make up my mind. Have read soooo many different things here about the different brands of Memory, High Latency vs. Low latency, stability at different settings etc. So when I see someone with the same equipment I perk up real fast to see how they are doing. BTW...what kind of CPU ya gonna toss in there?

I'll be watching this thread closely. Thanks

This is correct and you dont really have a problem.. see DDR stands for Double Date Rate.. so you multiply that 200mhz X 2 = DDR400.. Just the way the bios puts the info on your screen is all

Re: ASUS A7N8X-E-DELUXE & Dual Channel RAM

Tunes67, thanks for your help, my RAM is in Dual Channel mode

SRV, I'm not exactly sure whate you mean when you say, "what settings you have your Memory set at in BIOS", I go with the default settings as I don't OC my computers. As far as the Memory I use, this is whats I bought......RAM
note: I didn't by my RAM at this site, I got it at PC Club.com for 299.99usd

As far as CPU goes, right now I'm running a "Athlon Tbird 1333Mhz 2666FSB", so I'm not really getting the full bang out of my MB and RAM. But in a few months when I can finnaly afford my new CPU, I'll be dropping this one in.....CPU

Re: ASUS A7N8X-E-DELUXE & Dual Channel RAM

T.N.D., by "settings" for your memory I was just refering to how you are running them. In other words are you just going with stock settings that your MotherBoard (SPD) reads? SPD means "Serial Presence Detect". This would basically be the recommended "auotmatic" settings that your MotherBoard reads when detecting your Memory. Since you are not Over Clocking I suspect you are andI was just curious if your Memory was actually running at it's advertised "low" settings which in your case should be about 2-2-2-5. Or, have you "adjusted anything in your BIOS to get different settings?

I'm still pretty new to all this as well and hope I'm asking/stating these things properly. If not maybe somebody here can ask it better (and I'm sure in much fewer words!). I've been trying to figure out for the past month, since I'm putting together a system with the exact same MB you have, is what Memory I can use that will be the most stable from the first time I boot up without tweaking anything (i.e. my settings in BIOS) and using the fastest (lowest Latency) Memory I can afford thatwill actually run at 400FSB (200fsbx2). Like you I don't care to Over Clock either, so I just want the fastest most stable thing I can get (memory wise) with the least amount of hassle as far as tampering with settings anywhere. Make sense?

BTW...not sure if NewEgg or ZipZoomFly ships overseas or not but I just bought my XP 3200+ for $200.00 U.S. with free shipping.

Anyway, hope I made some sort of sense. Would like to hear back from you but no big if you don't respond. Good luck with everything.
