Is matrox g400 better than the geforce 2.
Would voodoo 5 blow both of these away.
Reason I need to know is for a certain game that does not mention ati chipsets as supported.

Voodoo 5 was pretty cool, 3dfx was quite the company. I'm going to have to vote for the GF 2.
I've never seen the performance of the other two first hand.

Voodoo 5 hands down, I mean come on it's like twelve feet long.
-AMD Athlon 64 3400+
-ASUS K8N-E Deluxe
-2xWestern Digital "Raptor" 10,000RPM SATA, RAID-0
-Enermax 550W PS
-eVGA Geforce 6800 Ultra (77.77)
-1.5GB Corsair PC-3200LL
-Hyundai L90D+ 19" LCD
-Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
I'd say the GF2 is fastest (unless it's MX) and provided that you don't use AA. Matrox G400 is at least the slowest of the bunch.
Don't forget the Voodoo 4/5 VSA100 (4500, 5500 [also 4000, 5000 and 6000 - never released though])series of graphics accelerators were designed to compete against the original GeForce256, not the GeForce2.
The only reason they ended up going head to head with the GeForce2 thanks to problems within 3dfx (Xbox and Dreamcast deals for instance) which inevitably delayed the development of the processor.
So in this battle, the GeForce2 certainly wins, it has better support for DirectX, supports hardware TnL and is basically a lot faster at rendering.
The only place where the Voodoo5 will win is with FSAA, if you play a lot of old Glide only/optimized games or if you are very lucky and have a 6000 (and even then it will struggle hehe).
It will hammer the Matrox G400 though![]()

A GF2 GTS is comparable to a V5
I have a voodoo 5 5500 64mb agp here. It's not better than a GeForce2 Pro 64MB:
- GeForce 2 has considerable better IQ
- GeForce 2 is SUPPORTED by a lot more games, I couldn't even play UT2003 with my Voodoo 5, that's UT2003
- NVIDIA's drivers are much better
That's about it. My V5 5500 was awesome while it lasted. I only paid 80 bucks for it so that was a steal. But when I upgraded to GeForce 4 Ti4200, it was a whole new world since I could actually play UT2003. And about your matrox g400:
Matrox G400 < GeForce 1 < GeForce 2 GTS 32MB < Voodoo 5 5500 AGP < GeForce 2 Pro 64MB
