    Video Card Availability Discussion

I am curious to see what results you are having in regards to high-end graphics card availability.

Here is my look at it on the PCP news section: http://www.pcper.com/comments.php?nid=488

There's already buzz on the NV45. It'll be announced soon, but not actually available until spring I bet. AMD is the best on having actual product, but they've had a few paper launches, too.

    Re: Video Card Availability Discussion

Thanks for the article. The lack of high-end video cards is very frustrating for those of us who want to buy one. I've been shopping for an ATI X800XT/PE for some time now. I've also been trying to find a BFG 6800 Ultra OC. I'd prefer the ATI but I will buy which ever card I can get first. In my experience seeing a card listed as 'available' at an online shop is meaningless. Case-in-point, I've been on a waiting list for almost two months for a BFG 6800 Ultra OC from www.shopRBC.com. During this time the card has always been listed as "Usually Ships in 24-48 Hours". Not quite the reality. I'm in Canada so it limits me a bit (NewEgg won't ship here). My choices are further limited because even though I have the money to buy a high-end video card I absolutely refuse to pay a 'scarcity premium'. If I can't find one of these cards selling for MSRP I will just sit out this round of top-end video cards.

I cant vouch for Nvidia cards, but there is a reliable, and cost effective way (as opposed to $700.00+), to get ATI X800 Platinum Editions, at the retail price of $499.00, delivered to your doorstep, with FREE UPS Ground Shipping!

The answer is Best Buy's "Customer Fullfillment" warehouse.

    What you do is this:

Go to the store. (If you cant, you can still do this if you have access to a fax machine (credit card only)) Go to the service desk and ask them to check the customer fullfillment system for SKU#6366602. They *ARE* getting 4 or so every few days. You can try calling to check inventory but good luck there. (they just never seem to answer the phone unless you call RIGHT at opening) Anyways this DOES WORK. I've done it twice in 2 weeks time. This is how most of the EBAY auction sellers are getting them in the first place.

Just keep trying and Good Luck!!

next thing you know you'll have people tracing IPs and going to the houses of those with good cards. It happens in car forums often.

Safe to say video gaming is an expensive addiction for some.

In my previous post on this thread I said I'd get the BFG 6800 Ultra OC if I could find one first. I happened to be sitting at my computer Tuesday evening when an 'availability' email popped up from a Canadian vendor. I got the card today and I am very happy with it.

    Re: Video Card Availability Discussion

I ordered an MSI6800gt on sept 24th. I still don't have an E.T motherf#*king A. Could be a number of reasons at this point. Popularity, Intro of PCI Express, 6800 has defective VPU?, Border Strike, To many RMA's, Gpu difficult to make, The fact I live in Canada, or Nvidia supplies Msi the least. Anyone know of any other possible reasons? Why would Nvidia want everybody to buy an agp card that will last them the next two years when they are releasing PCI-e, Nforce4 and SLI now??? And especially if there is something wrong with the vpu. They might be limiting the supply on purpose. It's strange when breakthrough cards like 6800 and x800 are released during a transition period from agp to pci-e.

    Re: Video Card Availability Discussion

..similar here in Australia with 6800Ultras and 800xts/pes...I've had my 6800gt for nearly 3 months now, paid way too much @A$799..there's plenty of those around..but Ultras' are a different story, every place is 'still waiting' or have had a couple which go immediately to the fools willing to pay A$1000 +!! As for x800s, pros, like the 6800gts, are everywhere, but the xts are rare, I've seen 1 (6 weeks ago)@ a comp swap meet(guy wanted over A$1000), but few to none elsewhere..xt pes are unheard of, another matter of places getting a few xts for the fools willing to part with over A$1100-A$1200..Yes, it's an expensive hobby for those who 'have to' stay current, buying a us$500+ vid card every 12 months gets wearying after a few years as you end up worrying about being left behind/your 'new' games running shooty..CAN ANY1 SAY 'HURRY UP HALF-LIFE 2?'...totally off topic, but i found d3 a total letdown(should have heeded carmacks, getting back to basics/d1 style gameplay theorum.;(), and am dying for nov 16 to be able to be, hopefully, immersed in a good, not have to multiplayered to enjoy, game. With luck and good imagination, hl2 should be a game that will make all these f'n expensive vid cards worth having without having to go online to enjoy it eg., ever played Single player bf1942/desert combat, RTCW, MOHAA , ut2004(bots are fun i admit)ect? I know they're all fpses, but whats the alternative, myst? dangerous creatures? b&w? Generals?..hl2 better live up to the hype valve/vivendi/whoever, or, or i'll......wait for the NBT...hmphffff....and to think, I'm a married 42yo...wheres my head @????? THIS IS what computers(&thc) do to u kiddies.............madness and total bladder control....

    Re: Video Card Availability Discussion

ive noticed that there is enough high end cards to choose from on online shopping websites here however availability varies greatly depending on which card it is, some are in stock and listed and some are listed and not in stock, the delivery of the ones in stock is much quicker however they are not the best cards to have I think, seems to be around a week to wait to recieve them if its listed and not in stock however the wait is worth it to recieve a higher quality and better performing video card
