Would we have to set up the array with the current os intact, put the image on the array, wipe the 200GB clean and tell the system to boot from the array? Will the system not let me with the original drive clean? What's the best way to do this?

    Thanks BWM!!

And now would be the perfect time as I'm going to help my friend do this in a couple of hours. I'll recap for ease of reading

    1. Friend has Vaio with 250CG hd in it currently - it's divided into 2 partitions = one of which has the OS and programs and emails stuff, etc - it's called "c".

    2. He has 2 74gb raptors which he'd like to slap an image of "c" on to - raid 0 - he has a pci promise raid card

    3. Once that's done successfully, he'll just use the 25gb drive for data.

My question is - what's the best way to go about this?

    Hey LL!!

The first thing you will want is to setup the Sata raid controller in the current OS. I like to set it up and be sure that it is functional. Then using the Imaging boot disks, boot to the Imaging Program. Did you have a program already or one in mind?

Ah, just as I thought. He uses the latest Drive Image.

So, then put the image on the array - then how do I make sure the system boots to the array? What am I missing? Thanks!!!!

Not familar with Drive Image. If the imaging is successful and clones the drive completely it should be bootable you then will just have to change the Boot order around.

Is there a boot choice for a pci raid card?

    Re: jumper settings

That can be tricky. If on-board RAID is disabled, then selecting boot from SCSI in the BIOS usually works.

Don't think there is onboard raid on this Vaio...

    One more question:

This seems strange to me, but besides the 2 74gb raptors we installed - we put and additional raptor in alone - not raided. The system saw it as a 138 GB drive. Now, it might have been part of a prior array. So, we re-formated and the system still sees it as 138 GB - only it has 69 GB free space. Know what's up with that?

Did you originally create an array then remove a drive without deleting the array within the controller BIOS?

That sounds about right. Would writing 0's to the drive do the trick? i did reformat...

When I did that, I thought a reformat would do the trick - I thought wrong....

    Re: jumper settings

What you might try is recreating the array then deleting the array in the Controller Bios then remove the one drive from the controller.
