Of course RAM can cause crashes. If its defective of course, thats why you have to test with memtest86.
I may be wrong, but with RAMBUS don't you have to install pairs or use a terminator or something like that? You could try an Intel forum somewhere as AMD has never used RAMBUS memory and someone might know.
