If I was going s939 now I'd probably get the 3200+ winchester, for the 10 multiplier.

Me I would rather get the 2.2Ghz 3500 as the Multiplier is 11 and It's currently $78.00 more than the 3200 and right now the 3500 is $252 vs $174 of course. And by the time I'm ready It might go down some more possibly.

Nothing wrong with that reasoning. I've just found a 10 multiplier to be the sweet spot and I'm straped for cash.

    Just an update,

A parts arrived, did the usual flashed Bios , Sata driver makedisk, and installed OS. Runs extremely well. Was not able to run just SATA Raid 1 on the Promise controller by itself, so just using the VIA SATA Raid 1 setup and install went fine. My final system specs

The relevance of that really depends on your memory. If you have fast memory, you don't need the higher multipliers.

Since my TCCD ram will do 290MHz stable, I have no need for any multipliers higher than 9.

My 3200+ with its 10x multiplier would clearly allow a max overclock of 10x290 and there's no way I could get it to run at that speed.

So in my case, 11x is a waste of time.

In fact peak performance with my CPU is probably at 9x290 or thereabouts. So I don't even need the 10x multiplier.

Uh I got a 3200 winnie with an asus a8v deluxe and some pc4000 and WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEzors.

No, seriously, I went into the bios and gradually upped the overclock until I was at 4xHTT, 250fsb, 10.0x, 2.5GHz at only 1.6Vcore with the stock hsf and wow it benches fast. I felt a bit guilty that I could possibly get that much extra performance out of it, i mean it just didn't feel right. And especially with only a stock HSF. AND my whole system stills runs cooler and quieter (since less fans needed) than my tbred b nf2 @2.3GHz.

The major advantage of the 3200 is the 10x multi. A lot of ram can hit 250MHz at least to give you an even 2.5GHz without any special treatment, but not much is rated/guaranteed to go above 250.
holy cow it's all gone pear shaped

Just like me! In fact I am only running at 10x240 at 1.45v normally. I have managed to get it *nearly* stable at 2600MHz at 1.55v (Primed for 7hr 45mins and then bombed out!). But its just too outrageous. What, with the *stock* heatsink and fan. I just can't.

When I have an XP-90 Thermalright, perhaps I'll feel a bit less "guilty" ;-)

Hey guys i have my 90 3500 overclocked to 2.4 10x240,HTT 4.I have the MSI K8NEO2 mobo and 1GB of OCZ Rev2 memory volts to memory right now at 2.75.I tried prime last night but it halted at 5 hours.I would like your opinions if i should up volts to memory to 2.8 to see if i can pass prime more then 5hours.

No. Your memory probably doesn't even need 2.75v. You can probably run it at higher speeds than that at 2.6v or 2.65v. My PQI (which is extremely similiar - TCCD on a brainpower PCB) will do 275MHz at 2.65v and 290MHz at 2.75

I suggest you need a little more CPU voltage. What are you running it at now?

It depends. The 90nm parts are not very tolerant of high temps and its important to keep your temps down, I would say certainly below 65C and ideally well below 60C. Higher voltages are probably safe, as long as your temps are kept down.

(AMD specifications say that Tcontrol - which is essentially the internal diode temperature reading - should not exceed 70C, and prolonged us at 70C will impair the life of the CPU. 70C is significantly lower than for other AMD CPU's e.g XP Mobiles (with "Q" rating), which are specified to run at up to 100C.)
