XP Reformat Question: "The file ---.dll was not copied correctly" ...?

So im reformatting my computer, i am booting from the Windows XP CD and then deleting the partition and creating a new one and reformatting it. It finishes the windows install, after like 20min it gets to 100%, then it starts installing some other windows things, and it gets to about 15% and says
"The file samsrv.dll was not copied correctly, press enter to try again or ESC to skip"
...i thought that was weird, so i tried again and it came back up, so i just skipped it, then a second later it comes up again, this time the file is esent.dll that could not be copied, so i skip, then srvsvc.dll, then cmd.exe, then msxml.dll, then msimsg.dll...eventually i hit F3 and just quit the install and shut my computer down.

Can anyone help me? thankyou.

Is this a new disc that oyu haven't used before? It may be a bad disk.

If thats not it, try reformatting ..... as in delete the partition and then don't just "format quick" ... just do "format "

if that STILL doesn't do it ... then you should do a LOW lever format .... go to either (1) http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/l...el-format.html or (2) http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm and get one of those utilities and low-level format

No i have had this disk for over a year and have used it many times. And i always do regular format, i never do the quick NTSF format. And i cant really use those programs because my harddrive is wiped clean, i already tried deleting the partition, so there is nothing on the computer right now.

nope, the disk is perfect, not 1 smudge, it gets all the way to 100% when its installing windows, which is why i think it has nothing to do with the disk or CDrom drive. Its just right after when its finishing the install installing some other windows components and such.

Sounds like a memory or optical drive problem.

Memory problem? I only have 1 stick of ram, and its in Slot 1, its brand new as well.

hmm.something couldve gotten on the optical eye since you are certain its not the disc.discs will fade over time if they are burned ones depending on the quality of the disc.

I have temporarily resolved dust on the eye by blowing inside or air can from a distance.not a proffesional remedy but it worked for me before-

The CDROM drive is 3 weeks old, its brand new from newegg, its a Asus. And the Windows XP CD is not burned, i bought it for 200$.

I had this exact problem today at work loading a new machine for a client. Tried two different CD ROM drives and three different CDs. Turns out it was a bad/flaky/incompatible piece of RAM (that up until I reloaded the OS worked fine...including the first time I loaded the OS on the machine a few months ago).

But i just purchased the RAM a couple weeks ago, and the computer ran perfectly, i was playing HalfLife2 for like 8 hours flawlessly, and the only time it started doing this is when i put the XP CD in to reformat, i havnt touched the RAM since the day i put it in, so i dont think it could be RAM ?

Try copying all the files from the CD into a folder on the HD and running the install from there.

I dont have an OS installed, the harddrive is wiped clean, i can only boot my computer from a CD, so thats not an option.


Ya i think i might have to install Win98SE then WinXP, which is shitty, now i have to find a Win98 CD somewhere
