Re: XP Reformat Question: "The file ---.dll was not copied correctly" ...?

I doubt it as well, there is no way that the computer could have changed the format or code of the CD when its inside the regular CD-ROM drive, or any drive for that matter. It sounds like BS to me, how can the CD all of a sudden no have DLL files on it, when i just used the same CD 2 weeks ago to reformat the computer i am on right now, kind of strange.

This is sort of black-helicopterish, but a CD's coatings could be formulated so that a given number of exposures to the read-laser made the disk unreadable. We know they have figured out how to make DVD's that will crap out after 3-4 days from the first exposure to oxygen.

But, it seems kinda BS. Nobody knows better than Microsoft how vulnerable their OS is to virus, spyware, etc. and how often we just give up and reformat. MS is close enough to a customer revolt as it is.

Well i guess it could make sense, but i have had this CD for over a year, and have reformatted my 2 computers with it probably 10 times or so. Also the weird thing is that if i check my CD-Key online with microsoft, all of a sudden now it says that i have registered it tomany times and i need to call them, which is why i contacted them and they are sending me a new CD. I didnt know that there was a limit of how many times you could use the disc on your own home computer, its a bunch of ••••••••, but when you have no other choice (except Linux), i guess it doesnt matter.

    Did you test the RAM?

That response from MS is BS.

Hey guys, I'm new here just found this forum thread via google shamelessly while trying to repair my own pc. I did not run Memtest86 becuase I have a *lot* of old ram at my disposal, so I popped a piece in from my trusted device box and that fixed the problem. Fantastic advice. Thanks again guys I appreciate it.

RAM! I registered and had to comment on this topic after finding it via Google. I had the same issue with random files saying they could not be copied over during the copy process of an xp install. I tried three different discs, tried skipping files, etc, and that didnt work. I ran a few diagnostic tools off of hirens boot cd and ultimate boot cd, but alas, the Memtests would not run or complete. This should've red flagged me but im a Noob so I didn't think too hard about it.
After finding this thread I pulled out one stick of the two that were inside, and alas - windows xp just finished with the full install! Check the memory if you are having this issue!

Same thing for me, i removed one of the memory banks from the computer and I was lucky that it was the bad memory chip and then I tried installing XP and it worked fine.
