I doubt it as well, there is no way that the computer could have changed the format or code of the CD when its inside the regular CD-ROM drive, or any drive for that matter. It sounds like BS to me, how can the CD all of a sudden no have DLL files on it, when i just used the same CD 2 weeks ago to reformat the computer i am on right now, kind of strange.
This is sort of black-helicopterish, but a CD's coatings could be formulated so that a given number of exposures to the read-laser made the disk unreadable. We know they have figured out how to make DVD's that will crap out after 3-4 days from the first exposure to oxygen.
But, it seems kinda BS. Nobody knows better than Microsoft how vulnerable their OS is to virus, spyware, etc. and how often we just give up and reformat. MS is close enough to a customer revolt as it is.
