    Good motherboard for AthlonXP 1800?

My friend is pretty tight on cash and I am trying to help him put together a computer keeping his XP1800. What are some good but inexpensive MBs? He is currently running PC133 RAM so i wanted to set him up with a MB that can handle at least PC2100 (266Mhz) to match the CPU. If you ahve time and want to help, I would appreciate reccomendations on RAM as well.
    Thanks

Re: Good motherboard for AthlonXP 1800?

I have been pretty happy with Asus motherboards.. I currently own 2 A7N8X-E boards and both are operating smoothly and pretty quick.. (2nd machine is running a 2200 XP CPU & DDR333 Ram) If you want to save some cash.. check the refurbished boards at newegg.com.. Granted occasionally you could get a lemon.. but you can always return it and it is a way to get a higher end product for less $$$.. as for the Ram.. Corsair Value Select ram is decent and relatively inexpensive.. Patriot or PDP Memory is also decent and inexpensive.. you can find these and other types of Ram at newegg as well. Ram to avoid.. in my opinion (I am sure others will agree and disagree with this), TwinMos, Geil, Kingston (Yeah I am using it but it was a hassle to get stable). Seen more than a few instances of incompatibility with those 3 manufacturers.. Mushkin is good, Corsair, Crucial, PDP, OCZ, etc.. are all decent brands.. While I wont say dont go cheap.. I will say.. dont go Generic for your memory.. get a good brand name as this will save you a bit of hassle.. also.. a lot of Memory Manufacturers have websites now that will list ram modules compatible with any given Motherboard.. definately worth checking out.
