Re: Abit NF7-S Bios & Romsip Mod by -=Merlin=-

I went over to my Confiscated NF7-S V2 and did the new Merlin Bios, I had it at 168x13 before as the best I could do, this Bios did let me go to a 200 FSB x 11 Multi so a meager 16 Mhz pickup, but running well at 200 (202 was a no go at this multi)

It is using a xp 2600 (Small cache), 2x256 Crucial PC3200 (The single sided cas 3 stuff that works well), 9500 Pro (Modded), 12x Creative DVD, Older TDK burner, floppy, 40 Gig Deathstar (IDE)....

I'm sure lower latency ram would help some, more Ram help more. It is used by the Warden with internet gaming sites in Korea, she gets ejected sometimes for being to slow. (Not her I Promise!) Then she's on my case to make it better

She keeps eyeballing my A64 and EPoX ..... I wonder why...

Ciao i have tried your bios D27 taipan CPC on

    This is my system:
    Amd XPm 2600+
    2x512 Muskin BlackLevel 1 (ch5 chips)
    Ati 9800pro@XT
    Abit Nf7s rev2
Hd Maxtor 2x80g SATA Raid 0
    Ali Enermax 460w

Before D27 taipan (original abit 27 bios):
    Max Fsb: 220mhz 11/3/3/2 (2640 mhz, 12x220)
unstable over 220mhz fsb, also with 2.9v on memory.

After with D27 taipan cpc on:
    Max Fsb: 240mhz 11/4/4/3 (2640 mhz, 11x240) 2.9v on memory
unstable over 240mhz fsb: ch5 needs more than 2.9v.
    I think with 3.1v (ddr booster) i can take 240 11/3/3/2 or 240>fsb

You are great, it' s an optimal result for CH5 series memory.

    THANK YOU

Can anyone recommend which Merlin Bios I should try for my system? No Raid, do have 1 hd using the SATA using the Abit ATA/SATA connector. Just looking to get my ram up the 220-230 range maybe....but mostly just want more performance for games. (in to Flight Sims, Racing Sims, WWIIOL, Far Cry and HL2)

    Thanks!

    XP 1700+ JUIHB DLT3C @ 2200 Mhz..
Thats a nice system. I also had a JUIHB in mine for a long time.
But I think at that level, you are not going to go much higher without making your system unstable.

    I am using the D27_TaiPan_0.3_ED_Bpl_3.19_28.12.04.
    So far no issues.

I'm talking the Memory(FSB...only running 200), not the CPU. Though I think I have some room in it too. Been running at 2.1Ghz at 1.6v for 16 months, just did a tiny bump to 2.2 and 1.75 2 months ago. Not messed with since, been busy with other things.

    Hi,

You seem lucky with your JUIHB.
I barely could reach 200FSB with mine and also I had to use at least 1.675V to achieve this as well.

I remember at the time I got it, many were running as high as 2.4-2.5Ghz. Not tried that yet myself, I wanted a reliable gaming rig that the whole family uses. (wife and 4 boys...and it has done well since I built it!)

Have a buddy with same MB/CPU his runs the same also...and he's not tried for anymore yet, though I expect he will, he just got some faster Memory.....

    I have 3 of those JUIHB's.
The better Memory (CL2 stuff) will only give you a boost if you run it faster than 200FSB.

    I must run.

Pick the thread up again tomorrow.

    Hi!
    I tried the D27 TaiPan 0.1 [EB][ED] Bpl 3.19 08.12.04 bios and I managed to reach 260mhz fsb 1:1 stable with vdd@1.7v ! 263mhz were not stable
I set the fsb to 250mhz to have better timings...

    CPU: Athlon XP-M 2600+ @ 2500mhz 1.675v
    RAM: 512mo ADATA PC4500 @ 250mhz 2.5-3-3-11 @ 2.8v

I think I'm going to make the vdd and vddr vmods because I've got some Twinmos SP with Winbond UTT on my plans

That's the best bios I've ever seen ! Great job Merlin

I'm still using Merlins D-26 CPC-Off because its been the best for me.

    I'm running an XP1700-DLT3C JIUHB @ 1.7v 240Mhz x9,5 2280Mhz with CL 3,2,2,8 Prime Stable.

Has there been any new bioses from Merlin for the NF7-S2 recently?

Yes, there is this D27 Taipan, that is what this thread is about, go back a few pages and you'll find both CPC off and on versions.
