    Abit NF7-S + barton2600

i was wondering what kind of voltage you give your oc barton systems?
i oc mine to 2.3GHz (11.5X200) but it take me whole 1.875V to put it on a stable path.
i guess it alot (for air cooling).
    my temps are:
    40c Load
    34c Idle

anyways the question what do you give your system with a same oc?

    thanks in advance.

You have 2 mobiles, i believe he is using desktop chips.

40c is still a very nice load temp for 1.875v.

You can ask what other people are feeding their CPU, but that's like asking what they had for breakfast this morning. It just doesn't really matter. All CPUs overclock differently. So if somebody says i need just 1.6v to run at 2.3Ghz that still doesn't change the fact that you need 1.875.

So all i'm saying is that 40c is a very nice load temp and if you want to go even higher you have some headroom left. Load temp under 55c with one of the newer bios files and you should be perfectly safe.

p.s. If your CPU is a mobile or unlocked desktop 2600+ try lowering the multiplier and increasing the FSB. You'll probably get much higher performance boost out of that.
    Overclocking system:
    ASUS Rampage Formula (BIOS 0403)
    Xeon x3350 SLAX2 @ 8x475=3.8Ghz 1.29Vcore
Dual Radiator (modded) Koolance EXOS with Zalman WB5 CPU block
    2 x 2GB OCZ Platinum PC8000 @ 950Mhz 5-5-5-18 1.8v
    Enermax NoiseTaker 600W
    ASUS GeForce 8800GTX @ 645/1645/1000

    i do have desktop barton.

Na i don't want to over kill my CPU (so more Powa is out of question ;P )
i just guess that i got a bad Barton for OC

Btw my cpu is locked, i heard so people say that locked bartons has tendency to oc badly when they locked however when you hack them they use much less Voltage and oc better.
    don't know if this right?!?!?

    anyways thanks for the info

    Alex.

well, a locked processor is bad for overclocking. why? because it's locked lol. redundant.

you don't really "hack" the processor, you "mod" it or "unlock" it. with the super locked chips its almost impossible, but with the earlier locked chips a simple socket mod will unlock it. i dont know about using less voltage, bu t you will have a bigger range of multi's to choose from and it should prove to overclock better.

    yeah i know about unlocking
that's what i meant when i said "hacked".
anyways i just don't want to unlock it if it isn't going to help me reduce voltage (the fact stays the same=i'm limited by voltage on the CPU therefore if i increase the multiplier i'll need even more voltage to feed it

    anyways thanks for the info.

I've got an unlocked barton 2500 on an Abit NF7-S and I'm running at 1.8v or so and my temps are very similar(around 34 idle and 40 load - I consider that to be pretty good - i'm running at 11 x 215)
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice core

    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
