Re: Noob water cooling question....does this sound right

    LC,

I don't have a picture of my case, but here is a link to the exact one I have at newegg http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...133-105&depa=1 only problem with mounting the rad in the front is that I have a nice rack of 3.5" bays there that currently hold my 2 raptors. I suppose I could ditch my floppy drive and move them up there and cut out the 3.5 bays, but I was kinda hoping to put a dual bay res in thoes slots.

And yeah I am from north Florida, but stationed at Panama City beach at the Navy dive school. Not a diver, but I work as support staff. I am a submarine ET, and my primary job is being a quartermaster.....lol

Nice case, a little different as far as the hard drive rack goes from what I am used to. You could always pop the hard drive rack out. Buy yourself a couple of cheap Vantec HDD coolers and put them on top with a single bay res and a DVD rom. You really don't need a res if you don't have the room, or you could toss the 3 1/2" floppy(I use a pen flash drive instead) and buy a double res that fits in the floppy bay.

I never have personally put a radiator on the inside or outside of the rear of the case. I know some guys have that frequent here, and perhaps they'll stop by and tell you what they think. I don't know if the warmer air from the exhaust side would hurt temps or not. I can say this though, the fan alignment looks about right on to fit the dual 80. If the front is the same way, you'd be in business from either side. Although, if you're thinking of doing a single 120 or dual 120, the front would possibly offer more room for cutting into the frame with a dremel. I personally just use a reciprocating saw, they cut fast. Just make sure to smooth the edges if you try this.

Report back when you decide what you're going to do. A Black radiator with stainless fans would look good in that case. I'm partial to stainless fans. A cheap place to get the 120's is Jab-Tech.

Went to Navigation school in Orlando, and If I recall correctly there were quite a few ET's there. E-3 out of boot camp, we were all jealous.

    Best Regards,

    Steven

    Steven,

You are being a huge help in giving me ideas, thanks. I have almost made up my mind on going with the dual 120's and just mounting it completely outside the case, probably bolt it down to my desk with some 3" or so spacers to keep it off the wood that should give me more than enough ambient airflow I would think and that DD12v pump should have no issues with the added pressure needed for the little bit of extra distance(at least I would hope). As for fans I was thinking along the same lines as you and going with the aluminum evercools that dangerden has, they are supposed to do 80cfm at a tolerable 30db(I say tolerable because right now I am listening to a 92mm vantec tornado at 56.4db). Maybe I will do some research on fans first because thinking about it that vantec is muffled by the case and those 120's would be sitting outside the case. I'll check out Jab-Tech and see what they have.

I did all of my schooling up in Groton, CT. and I had to earn each and every rank I got....lol.

Installing outside of the case seems to be the best thing going. Didn't mean to throw too many ideas your way...because Ideas aren't always free...smile. I just tried to make mine as simple as possible, but highly functional. The less parts to break.

I don't think you can stress that DD12V. I really like that unit, It's working great in mine, and stays cool to the touch to boot.

Hitting the sack, like I said keep us updated...

P.S. What chip do you have? I'm going to be selling an Athlon XP DD CPU block on here next week for 23.50. It's only a month old. If you're interested, PM me, if not, no sweat.

    goodnight.

3800+ NICE! Had to settle for the 3500+ myself, when I started adding up all of my components...my pocketbook started screaming at me. Although very pleased with the performance.

Hey that 3500+ is a pretty sweet chip, it seems to be the 2500+ of 64 bit overclocking. Did you get the 90nm one?

    Bane,

No I didn't...probably should have, but the spread in the cost was as high as I've ever seen it when I went to purchase it. $257 vs. $335. I've got have my bucks stretch as far as I can with this stuff, so I opted for the cheaper of the two. I'm not a heavy overclocker by any means, so It should be good enough for me. Pretty impressed with it so far. Games are rockin. Haven't tweaked the board or the chip yet, still dealing with some very small stability type issues. You know how a new system is...a few small quirks here and there, but overall as I said very pleased with the new setup.

Still waiting for my video card, then I will consider it complete.

    Best,

    LC
