If not for the rebates I would think overkill as well.
I'm thinking about adding a good driving controller for my XBO 360.

UB don't you have a PS3 setup on one of your HiDef DLP's?

Please PM me your email addy I have a PDF manual that details how to make a car run on water, a hybrid. I would appreciate your opinion on it.

I've been tweaking settings on the 965 chipset boatd I have up there now and even with q 8600's in SLI I can't get there. I had planned on using a ASUS P5N-T (nvidia 780i) board but I can't get it stable enough for this. I wanted a single card because of room and cooling.. Overkill? Well, all I can say is I've seen DiRT on XBOX360 and PS3 and it looks NOTHING like mine. With the newer card, I can get even better detail. Overkill?....Hell yes it's overkill!

    PM'd you my email, Howie!

OK, added a few things more:
Gyration GYR3101CKUS USB RF Wireless Mini Vista Media Center Remote combo Learning, IR&RF, mouse, 88-key KB Mouse Included (actually had for awhile and love it)
Decided the onboard sound may be causing lockups, so I went for a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional 70SB088600002 7.1 Channels PCI Express Interface Sound Card. It seems to have worked just fine. I'll have to spend some time tweaking the sound.
But the real nice thing was for my wife's peace of mind! With this I can go crazy and not bother anyone: SENNHEISER RS120 3.5mm/ RCA Connector Circumaural Wireless RF Headphone. They fit well, have great sound, no interference and allow me to hear things i didn't hear before.

    Re: My first HTPC

I'm using a similar system after ditching a Phenom about 8 months ago.

The 6600 runs at 3gHz with decent air cooling; those cpus are great. My system runs on my audio rack in a Uneed X11. I'lll bet that 9800 you have is sick. I found that even the 2600xt couldn't handle pass/resume of Hd material strongly enough although that could have been an ATI driver issues at the time. I went through about 4 vid cards and settled on a passive 3850.

    Enjoy it!

I'll have 2 GX2's for a total of 4 GPU's....see if I can finally play GRiD with all the eyecandy turned on!

Had to up the PSU to handle it, though.

    Re: My first HTPC

Made a lot of progress today. Decided to reinstall Vista from scratch. I actually got it running fine at 11x multi, now it's just over 3.6GHz on air!

Put some wheels on this suitcase!

    Tos of room, right now...

Now it's full. I tell ya, it took a lot of work to get the wiring well hidden, but with some planning it came off well, me thinks.

Did some mods to the setup today. Moved the gearshift and added wheeled casters to help move it on the carpet better.
(Click on pics to enlarge in new screen)

Added a slide for the seat as well. Makes accomodating kids and 'older' guests easier!
